I'm back from Belo Horizonte, now. (Yesterday morning.) Quite an adventure. ... Well, maybe not that much, but it's good to change view a bit, and, to me, who live in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte is a lovely little town, at least inside its main round avenue.
I had lived there, as a kid, and last time I had been there was back in '96, and I still could not learn to walk around by myself, as I did this time, and it was great, now, because I could simply walk around, be with friends, make new friends.
(I went there because of a girl I met, in msn ...)
About seven hours from Rio to BH, by bus. Nice, very nice trip. 'Spent four days there, one very good sunny day, and another in which, besides a bit rainy, I could see one of my aunts' house in the suburbs, which is now complete. Cosy place, they built to spend their weekends. It's almost done, by now. (Only the furniture missing, which they're taking there next wednesday ...) I could meet friends everyday, and that girl, specially, everyday as well. So, it was a very nice time! :D
I'm not very used to trips, I have to admit. But I'll probably have to go back there, a few times now ... :bawling:
Oh, love, love ...
:crash:
Weird. Out of 11 people the 1 person that wasn't drinking was the one that made the biggest *** out of himself.
Just came back from another trip. Short one. But I think I restrain my lower back. Carrying luggage, brief case, and laptop stinks.
As a recent convert - they don't look as good but backpacks are the way to go.
I've said it before but this time I mean it - I need to start watching college football. no matter how hard I try I can't get male coworkers to talk about shopping or/and music. And what is it with football? what's the big deal?
Agreed, papaya, though they can be a bit tiring if the back is giving you gip - wish now I'd taken one as hand luggage on recent trip (wouldn't like to put one through hold luggage, rather vulnerable to 'inquisitive' handlers?), though needing more capacious hand luggage was the perfect excuse (as if I needed one) to buy this lovely handmade, hand-painted, really strong canvas bag.....
I'm Home!!!! Ahhhh the sweet sweet smell of Detroit.
As I was driving in from the airport one of my friends called to say her father passed away. He had cancer. I met my friend in High School and have known her father for about that long. In high school he was known as the unfair dad with the accent that watched soccer on french TV, but at some point through the years he turned into a really cool guy. It was fun to see the strict guy turn into a giant marshmallow when his first grandaugther was born.
RIP Louie.
That's a sad homecoming, papaya, but I'm sure your friend will take strength from knowing that you too have fond memories of her beloved dad - I did and still do when my friends and cousins smile broadly and say, 'Oh, I liked your dad, you could talk to him.' I think his secret in being the favourite uncle/extra dad was that he treated everyone as if they were people (not nuisances of little kids) and took time to listen, treated your problems seriously and laughed with you at the things you found funny. It's good to remember people like that.
Whooo Hoooo 100% chance of snow today!!!!
Jealous. :(
Its so cold here that everyone is praying it will snow this christmas. Its supposed to go to freezing point in a couple of days. who knows.
Hope you have a nice time Papaya.
high School reunions stink. Details to follow...
phew, back home. My mom smokes so now I have to wash everything I took with me because everything in my suitcases smell like smoke as well. I even need to go take a shower to get the smell out of my hair..
I hate smelling like I've been cured in a tobacco smoke house!
I'm use to it. My dad is a smoker.
I smoke too but not in doors and only at work or if i'm out.
I don't notice it so much when I'm at my Mom's but once I get home I can really tell.
Do you ever ask yourself "why am I friends with this person?"
Papayahed, sorry to read about Louie. :(
So my hubby got back from London without his baggage. They 'lost' it. This was why he was in a state of states this Saturday past.
HOWEVER: the bag was delivered by a taxi from the airport today to our home. So All's Well That Ends Well ...
To double his joy (he doesn't know that the bag is back here safe and sound), I am making him a London Favorite (well, for him anyhow) -- Bangers and Mash. Wish me luck! ;)
argh! Yet again a half day vacation is ruin.
doh!!! The space shuttle landed in Shreveport!!! Due to bad weather in the south east the plane carrying the space shuttle had to land at the airforce base here.

Anyways, I was all ready to see it take off the next day. From work we can see everything that takes off or lands at the base. About 10:30 am we were all kinda peeking and waiting. About 10:45 am some issues cames up that I had to deal with and missed it :bawling:
Sorry to hear the back is still troubling you, Virgil. I've never used a garment bag - they always look so hard to carry. I can't carry much, bags unbalance me, so I usually try to cram everything into a wheelie bag. It's my ambition to go away with just one carry-on bag, like the guy on the OneBag website - unfortuately I seem to need more clothes than he does: must be a woman thing. But I did set off this year with one medium-size case (on wheels) and one medium-size shoulder strap bag - trouble is, I can't resist shopping while I'm on these once-in-a-lifetime trips....
Could you persuade someone to treat you to a massage of some kind for Christmas? Professional (no, not that sort :D ) or home, doesn't matter - might do you a power of good. I had one in China that I thought was going to kill me but at the end I felt ten years younger - wonderful!
Why is everything going all wonkie on me?? My MP3 player is doing weird things when I put it on my Christmas playlist now Napster is acting weird.
Bossman is in town.....again. Luckily for me he's pretty ok.
Mom is in town and so far so good. We went to a christmas festival yesterday it's in a small town about an hour away. I learned 3 things:
1) Fireworks are always good.
2) Corndogs are always good.
3) Footlong corndogs maybe a little too much of a good thing.
There is nothing quite like fireworks is there. Well we have New Years Eve to look forward to we always have firework here. There is also a big fireworks display here on Australia Day which also happens to be my mums birthday so she has all the luck a public holiday and fireworks.:p
No matter how you slice it sleeping on an air matress leaves a lot to be desired.
Oh I know that too. My wife and I had to sleep on one at our nephew's house and it had a slow leak and by middle of the night it was practically flat. Probably another reason why my back is still bothering me. I don't know which is worse, an air mattress or a futon. Those suck big time too.
I'm definately going to need a chiropractor after ths visit. I need a bigger place so I can get a sofa bed. (I'm still debating house vs. apartment question)
It stinks going back to work after the holidays, it seemed everybody was out of it today!!
ok, have you ever been in the airport waiting for your flight and realize you missed it because you are waiting at the wrong gate??:eek2:
