Good question, as I wonder the same thing, myself. The impression of what seems 'best' for the world proves entirely subjective, which, I think, obviously, relates to much worldwide and local violence. I could never, by any means, find myself as a politician or political philosopher, but my often utopian and idealistic thoughts I have (I admit, fully) truly exist within myself, and usually disagree with others' views, mine seeming (I admit again) far from possible, as one can never convince the world to act more reverential and understanding.
I very strongly emphasize that my ideas have also come from experience, but nothing very empirical besides the chaos of war, racism, sexism, etc., of which we all, I feel sure, have knowledge. I cannot call myself the most reverential to others, but I certainly attempt it, acting through my own morals, and never forcing my views.
So, to summarize my answer to your question: my morals both originate from my own 'self,' and other 'selves' - in essence, nature AND nurture, but probably more so nature, always having the drive to promote peace.

Miss_Darcy: being a musician, perhaps being committed to other arts, what do you consider your favorite art, and why?

SUB: I have three children, one biological, two that I married and love equally. But I started as a very young man, I was 18 years old when my son was born. I was only 37 when two of my kids were graduating high school, and the youngest (now 26yrs old) was running away from home to join the Hollywood movie set! My babies are quite OLD now, 29,29, and 26years old. They love me, I love them, and all my ex-wives love all of us..........

MONO: Insightful answer to my question....it is of course critical that we try to understand ourselves ere we misunderstand everything else. But to answer your question.......I believe that my nature has always been what it is so flagrantly today (although the patrarchial world I live in has influenced me to hide behind a macho facade during many periods) and that is a kind of 'hippie-peacenik-we-are-all-brothers-and-we-are-one-with-each-other-and-one-the-universe' idealistic flower child persona. I have been less than moral at times during my life, I have been distinctly BAD at other times, but my nature is one of peace and harmony. I am reverting back to my true 'self' now that my only responsibility is myself, and I have no pressure to conform to anything, and no reasons to do so. Also, I simply cannot exist without constant interaction with Mother Nature (I'm a Taurus), I'm 'Earthy', always have been (Stress relief? All I gotta do is go out-of-doors for a few minutes and I feel centered). I guess I'm saying that I believe that my nature is dictated by.....nature.....but my own life long attempts at nurture of my 'self' definately exacerbates the genetic predisposition. I consider myself licky..... .ahem....LUCKY.....to be inherently gentle at heart and mind.

Bottom line? IMHO....nature carries more clout than nurture for most of us.

Thank you, mono. Yes, it was my suggestion to have a separate Games sub forum, hoping that it would make it easier to keep a track of the threads and the Admin, very kindly, agreed to set it up. And Voila! :)

Well, I must say music, though writing is closely companionable to it (don't ask why I chose that particular word, just sounds good...); it's my favourite because, I think, out of all the arts it "comes closest to expressing the inexpressible", as Aldous Huxley puts it. And of course, also due to the fact as music is the art I have the most connection with...I used to draw a lot as well, but lately I haven't had much time...

Well, I've been playing 7 and a 1/2 years, which is not so much in comparison to some Suzukilites who start at two or three. My favourite music I play is...the only music I play, classical music, but in that area, well, I really like everything, especially fast pieces, and slow pieces...there aren't really in-between pieces, the pieces marked "moderato" usually end up being played either rather fast or rather slow. I love violin concertos, such as the Mendelssohn and the Mozart's and oh the Bruch and the Tchaikovsky (the last is on the to-learn list, not actually learning it yet).

Was the 'why' about the marriage thing? As in, why am I against it? Uhm well, first of all I don't believe in eternal love so that destroys the basis of it... No. In fact, I haven't studied philosophy per se since high school. I have read some philosophy book occasionally in the last time, but it's not my usual thing. I like Schopenhauer particularly, he doesn't strike me as the usual philosopher, he just lays his thoughts in an open, clear manner, without any false pretenses or aspirations. I like Hume too, a brilliant man, wise in many subjects. There are others, but those two are the ones I like better, although I don't necessarily agree to all their opinions (which is particularly relevant to the first one).

I have taken only a few philosophy courses in college, but enjoyed them very much; otherwise, I study some philosophy on my own.
