The nostalgic moonstone
He used to moon wistfully but not blithely
by the window, in the morning,
dreaming about garlands and links, yes, links...
and some distant future on the moon.

Didn't know this definition: Links - Scotland: sand hills especially along the seashore ...
also Moon - intransitive verb. : to spend time in idle reverie : behave abstractedly. fans mooning over movie stars. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

entering into Aquarius
rain and fog intrude upon
the wee early hours -
frogs make happy
still playing the grass widower -
now over a year
my woodstove kettle burbles
cats slumber
pensively pondering
a memorial come March
near Monterey Bay
to bid a final farewell
long delayed to a friend
- perhaps I'll leave a
bouquet of violets
if I can get there - close
to "Dennis the Menace Park"
- so Patrick... he'd die laughing
if he could
in multiple distant lands bayonets
dance, tanks roll, missiles launch -
I see a future with sandstorms
made from the rubble of man -
great haboobs scornfully scouring
the earth as a memorial to folly
... but I digress

Carnival arrives ! an expectant
whirlwind - jubilee of jubilees !
offering a brief solacement
to the everyday cares of now high-
spirited, joyful, boisterous masses
dancing to dances rechoreographed
from colorful parades past to the
raucous, rhythmic, oft syncopated
music of samba schools vying one
with another - their volumes cranked
up to eleven as floats festively
adorned pass by and revelers exult

Under the Crescent Moon
The smell of petrichor
pervades the air
after the swift rain,
while a sole nightingale
in the gloaming hours
sings a solo to the virga
lulling the soft wisps of grass
to sleep.

my silent litany of wonderment
fell upon the full moon this even-
tide as I sojourn on the way
listening to the echoing wail of a
loon - its soliloquy of loneliness
beyond an embankment I espied
a great abundance of fireflies
frolicking nearby sleepy færies
settling down to bed who shooed
them gently away when flying nigh
the stars seemed to leap closer
as my litany ended and wonder
upon wonder an epiphany entered
into my mind of an everlasting joy

A nightmare
A dream comes back to me
in vignettes:
the pendulum of the clock stops.
A slight silhouette appears
on the opposite wall in my room
and a spectral voice whispers:
I'm the ghost of a love
from a past life,
A wake up,bathed in sweat.
No, no ghosts or mystical experiences for me!
