I get along very well with whomever i interact with, no matter whats their perception about me, as long as they are inthe discussion. Anyway, I am not sure how we can know if a certain person understands us well or not.

It's a combination of both, for honestly speaking I can't know about people's character until I befriend them. And I can't befriend them until we share some common intellectual space. But once we are friends, how long it lasts depends mostly on their character or general behavior. The knowledge/intellect matters less afterwards.

Sometimes silence tells much more than words.
