So with cobwebs and moonlight I stitched me some rags,
To present myself before the Captain, as a good sailor should—
Topped with a plumed hat conjured from the deep, like some rakish wag,
I strolled into his cabin and saluting him, there I stood.
His eyes never left the chart spread forth on his desk.
Absent-mindedly, he returned my salute, and pointed to the door.
“Report to First Mate. Ye’ll be given yer bunk and yer tasks.
And tell th’ cook ye need grub and grog. Ye’re but bones, little mair!”
But I turned invisible and stole a glance at the old seadog’s map:
Hummmm. Island looked familiar, but I’ve been dead for quite a spell.
I popped out through the wall and none of the crew saw me pass.
So I figured I’d pass meeting the First Mate as well.
I did check on the cook who was fixing a fine mushroom stew:
Ah, but for those that are dead, cold maggots must do…

(From papers discovered inside an empty cask)
I begin to hear strange murmurings amongst The Dastardly crew,
So t’would seem that my presence here has not passed unknown.
Heh. They are saying I am a Zombie! No. That’ll never do,
Though I once visited that haunted land the Zombies call home.
You see, mates, a Zombie is created by a papa loi skilled in dark arts,
And there even be some question if they be dead or alive.
But me, I’m naught but bones, not even a heart—
So ye can be certain of one thing and that is that I died!
I stand under the rigging beneath the St. Elmo’s Fire,
And raise my skull to the rain, it feels pleasingly cool.
To haunt such a fine ship would be any seafaring spirit’s desire!
But I see the dawn coming, and even the dead must obey rules.
In the darkness of the hold I write down my impressions and thoughts:
People who find them won’t believe, but they don’t believe the dead walk...

Hey 'ee ladies stop talkin' and go back to wo'k! Zombies, who is zombie. Leave that spirit alone. *looking around me and frightened*

Let me get out my survival guide....
hummm this ghostie sounds interesting now if I could just stay awake I might be able to spie on him/it (???)
A formidable force to have among our crew, indeed.

I'm getting the sense that you're not appreciated on the Dastardly. We coud use another guy like you on the Amazon. Why don't you switch over like I did? We won't call you a zombie.

Now, Cap'n Stan burns yon candles each night, always studying that map:
Blast me! I know that I've seen that cursed paper before!
Seems it had something to do with this one-legged chap?
It's so hard to think when there's space where you once kept your brains, ah, before!
I pass by the crew on the way to the bow to gaze over the sea;
She whispers secrets to me at times, for she long was my home.
I try to ask the sea-nymphs what the future might be--
They do not dare to reply--I much fear that this vessel is now doomed...
And I--I can step overboard, for there is naught now that may harm me,
Or stay among those who fear me that I may try to forestall coming events.
Am I not dead? Then why this feeling that I must stand by my duty--
Stand by my Cap'n and my ship? It doesn't make sense!
But I enter the cabin to find the Cap'n asleep in his chair:
And taking up his pen I wrote in red ink across the map the word "BEWARE!"
Uh, y'all can spare an apple, right?
