Watchmen is still my favorite comic book movie adaptation, even above The Dark Knight.
Agreed, the remake was crap.
I just saw Drive. It was absolutely horrible. Everyone else seems to just think its brilliant. It came off to me as a director trying to do what The Coen brothers did with No Country for Old Men and completely failing. 2/10.
I watched "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Remember His Past Lives" last week. It is a Thai film with Buddhist themes which meant that there were lots of lingering shots and very little action. It was quite a wierd film, but interesting in its way, though I'm sure some of it was lost in translation, or there were cultural references I just didn't get. 5/10
I just watched 'Midnight in Paris' and loved it, I have to say Owen Wilson surprised me. I was constantly reminded of a short story by Woody Allen I read years ago it wasn't the same but had a similar tone about it.
It's probably in my top 15 Allen movies...
Contagion. Good, not great. Standout performance by the always terrific Jennifer Ehle. No single storyline works well enough, together they keep your attention and build an evocative enough fabric while the movie lasts. In retro, the whole proves no greater than the sum of its parts.
Sonbahar - A Turkish movie 'Autumn'. 9/10. Beautiful picturisation and a powerful tragic ending.
Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola, really good I loved the music very unusual for a film like this. Sofia Coppola has made some great movies and this one is very good. I would have liked to see the king more though, maybe that is just because i love Jason Schwartzman.
I loved this too. I don't know how accurately it was portrayed, but it was fun. I like Kirsten Dunst in the role. I can't remember Jason Schwartzman for some reason. The "I Love Candy" scene sticks in my head. I have this soundtrack on CD, but it is better along with the movie.
Red. Bruce Willis is an ex CIA agent and someone is trying to kill him. He hooks up with some old buddies and well.....you can guess the rest!
An amusing action film, with a VERY loose plot, but hey, you go in with your eyes open!
A 6/10, but I am very critical! Worth a watch!
he played king Louie, it wasn't a big role but he was very interested in keys and not so in his wife for some reason...
anyway I just watched Broken Flowers and I just loved it, Jim Jarmusch is one of the best, the scenes when we just watch Murray drive or stand or sit are captivating, this is missing in so many movies the silent moments.
also watched Edward Scissorhands and it was a whole lot of fun like all of Tim Burton.
Kiss of the Spider Woman.
Very good film, according to the directors cuts it's one of the earlier independantly financed films, and the acting is very good by both Raul Julia and William Hurt. It was filmed in Brazil towards the end of the military regime and some how they got away with reflecting things that had recently happened in Brazil.
Old Joy - Starring Bonnie Prince Billy (Will Oldham) William London
It's pretty melancholic and minimalistic, but it can ring true to alot of people. A story about two old friends who meet up again after not seeing each other in quite a few years. Things have changed for them, but the movie is very subtle and extremely understated in fleshing that out. Very Indie Film.
I like Bonnie Prince Billy a a musician, so that's what led me to this pretty unknown movie.
Watched Volver last night on Film 4. You just have to love that Penelope Cruz! :drool5:
A good movie which gets an 8.5/10 from me. :thumbs_up
