That explains a lot about horses, I was always confused on that point! And haha, that's a very clever pun (that's not sarcasm, it's really genuine...I thought it was funny).

(*didn't get the pun* *will look some words up*)
Heey English is complicated... you give too many names to males and fenmales and kids... we often just have a female form (usually from the same root of the male anyway) and an endearment for the kids, except a few exceptions... Well sometimes it's more complicated but it's not words that are commonly used so I'm not meant to know them well ;)
Btw Russian has like 3 different words for young horses, depending on their age or even the period when they're born... And the words vary in different regions so... good job I'm not into those things much ;)
I don't know if this is the part you didn't understand, but anyway: on the "sig" post I was referring to the giant birdies in my avatar by their actual name, but the last half of the word also happens to be a swear word which also happens to be another name for a rooster. So the fowl/foul joke was pretty funny to me.
Do you know Russian?
Ah I missed that but actually now it's all clear after looking up 'foul' and especially 'fowl' :D
Oh I had missed the question: I'm attempting to learn Russian, but fluency is far away, but at least I got to the funny point when you understand a bit and can say things somehow, which is when learning a language starts to be satisfying.
Yeah, it's fun when you can start to figure out sentences based on context and try to work out a coherent statement. The only language I know enough of is Spanish, but I never speak it to anyone. I would be too embarrassed even if I had the chance! Are you able to speak Russian with someone? How many languages do you know, anyway?
I don't speak Russian if not at lessons, now that it's holiday I'm trying to keep it with songs (I luckily found a band I like and enjoy translating lyrics), which in my view it's the best way to improve a language, that's how my English started to take off.
Argh, the show off in me likes the question about languages.. I speak Italian as native, obviously...English fluently, French relatively fluently (I manage to read books, I'm impressed myself), Russian at the point I just explained, German probably a bit worse than Russian now that I forgot a lot of it (never been really good at it, I really don't like it), and some basic Spanish cos I've never studied it but I can understand quite a lot and say some basic things just basing on similarities with Italian.
As we're on the random thread and as usual I managed to take the discussion to languages, I want some opinions... I have to take one more language next year at Uni, and I'm in doubt between French and German...I'd choose French cos I already know it and to improve, or German to re-learn it cos it'd be one more language I can say I know and unfortunately in this part of the world it's far too useful... Any thoughts? The fact is that it's just 1 year so maybe even if German was written on my curriculum, I'd actually still know French better, somaybe Franch is better cos at least i'd have on my curriculum something I actually know...
(pardon any extra nonsense, it's half past midnight already!)
I don't know what to tell you, Koa. I love both French and German. I'm going to take them both in college, but I've been trying to decide which to take first, too. *shrug* I already know basic French (written French, that is -- I'm very bad at understanding spoken languages), and I know tiny bits of German. Is it better to know one language thoroughly and another almost not at all, or only half-know two languages? I can't decide.
Yeah that's the problem... one good, or two somehow? It's an impossible choice...
Me too, I'm very bad at spoken languages... I've recently read a book in French (of course I can understand many words because they're similar to Italian) but didn't manage to watch a film... Also in English, it's often hard for me to understand speaking. Of course it's a matter of practice...
crazy governmental black holes ... where money is light and... nothing else is matter... yeah.
I used to think I couldn't wait to be an old lady and do nothing but read books. But now I don't want to grow up and yet I'm gonna turn 20 in no time... :(
Why can't we stay 21 forever?
ajoe - I don't know about anybody else, but it gets way better after 21. Also, love the new avatar.
yes life is better after 21....very much so...
my random rambling? i just found out recently that i have been the victim of identity theft. unfortunately for me, it was not some sort of random thing, it was done by an ex of mine. he used my ID to connect a phone for himself (in a bastardized version of both of our names) in a city i didnt live in. all of this was done EIGHT years ago, but i only just found out when i tried to connect a phone in my new city (just happens it was the city he did it in). its really strange because here it is only TELUS that you can get a phone through, in BC and AB and i had a phone with TELUS in BC right up until recently. it was only when i was trying to change it to Calgary that this was discovered. so now i cant get a phone here until i pay the $696.42 that they figure i owe. even though they admit that it was identity fraud, they insist that it is my problem and i have to either pay it or go to the RCMP (canadian police). this is so bizarre. the acccount was in a name that was NEVER legally mine, in a place i can prove i never lived but i told the woman, that the way things are now, it would cost me far more than that bill in therapy if i had to contact him now and deal with this through the law. frankly that is one door better left closed. but .... now what???
AAHH! It sounds horribly aggravating and, unfortunately, I can offer no advice better than "sue the pants off of everyone involved."
Would a dancing banana chorus line make you feel any better?

Actually, I'd choose to never grow older than 19... (cos here everybody wants to be 18, cos you become an adult and can drive, and it's interesting to have those new rights... I know 21 is a big thing in the usa but here it's just an age like the others, so... 19 forever please!!!) (maybe it gets better after 21, but not already at 22 I guess... :D)Quote:

My random thought: I'm leaving to my holiday in England tomorrow. Wish me luck cos I'm visiting my first and only love... it's not love at all anymore, but hoepfully we'd at least get on well enough not to scream at each other 24/7 ... Apart from that, I'll try to be a perfect tourist and see as much Englishness as I can... I love England.
Of course that means I'll be on the forums less frequently, and probably more quickly than now... But I'll probably pop in from time to time :)
Have fun, Koa! At first I thought you meant England was your first and only love, maybe you should just skip that part of it and spend all your time enjoying England. Just kidding...good luck. :)
