The Blue-winged Helicopter Damselfly
In dense old-growth forest gardens
sun filters through the rich canopy
and heliports are dotted about where
Blue-winged Helicopter Damselflies
repose sunning between short flights
defending their teeming breeding pools
entrenched in trees with a territorial
fervor, or wandering at full tilt using their
19 cm. wingspans to search and pluck
spiders from their webs in acrobatic
flight using their long serviceable legs -
weapons that most assuredly perplex
their prey as they are carried off

Party in the village park
Among clamoring bluebells
and buttercups
they all sojourned:
toads, pixies and
the lively butterflies.
They danced all night.
In the morning
all signs of their presence
were erased by the breeze.

throughout to the anguish of fauna and fowl
a shimmering brocade robe of crimson and gold
made its way through the market place out of
place with its oriental, fanciful design of two
dragons embellished with gold thread; a coming
of age on display for all to see and be awed
from behind as not to meet the eyes of destiny

The Room
Peonies looking through the window
reveal a taste for flowers.
On the walls: a silent sitar
an old richly decorated dagger,
a picture of an old gentleman
with tiger in some foreign country.
A persistent odor of incense
pervades everything, but
a thick layer of dust
reveals
that the room has been empty
for a long time.

it was a logical extension, men thought,
sending tardigrades into space in skyro-
ckets learning how resilient they were to
a not so memorable excursion into time
with all the requisite white board scrib-
bles, beakers, tubes, and electronics a
time machine was fashioned from hypo-
theses into practice... would it work?
travelling in a whiz-bang fashion a colo-
ny of tardigrades arrived at a past time
when the earth had cooled and water
was abundant on land and sea and they
thrived; the only animal species to exist
... in a far, far distant future in a dense
fog, circa unknown, tardigrade scientists
embarked upon an experiment in time...

cowboy cat rides again
lasso loosely jouncing on his saddle horn
cowboy cat full of puss and vinegar tests
his latent prowess of roping on the run
against wildlife scattering on the prairie
his worthy ram steed cutting with the
game helter-skelter in a matching of wits
as cowboy cat gathers his lasso in a twirl
tossing a dart to the heel of a buck hare
as it upends in a rush of dust in front of
three, no four! prairie dogs who bolt to
their holes and the security of dens await-
ing the night before venturing out again
cowboy cat quickly dismounts his steed
and proceeds to tie the stricken legs of
the hare with a flourish extraordinaire !
then grinning, releases his worthy foe

Some Sort of Paradise
A beautiful landslide
where there is eternal summer.
A gentle breeze
carries a scent of jasmine,
Children frolic on the lawn
(yes, there is one)
Choirs of birds
and consorting of small animals.
And only pleasant changes.
Perhaps a paradise indeed...
