Niamh, Hmmm, now I have to go look "Empire of the Sun" up to refresh my memory. I saw a film "Little Budda" and Keanna Reeves plays Budda. Now that was a bit strange casting. He was young, not quite a kid. I often spot stars in films, when they were young or children. Not long ago, I saw "Forever Young" and the kid was star of "Lord of the Rings", Elijah Wood. He was great in that. He was adorable as a young boy in "Forever Young". Now he has gone on to be in some really good stuff. I liked him in "The Icestorm", directed by Ang Lee.

Hope you get well with rest and sleep soundly. 4 AM sure comes early. Maybe you got my flu bug at the airport - came in on a plane. That is probably it. Hope you are better soon. Take care and rest when you can.

I myself missed a solid 29 days of class last semester with throat and sinus infections, then a stomach virus, then bronchitis. I wish you both good health soon!

Also, you poor things on the movie front!! How have you never seen Silence of the Lambs?? I LOVE that movie. The thing that most people can't seem to get past is the fact that it has a cannibal in it. And a serial killer. But it's really not about that!! The characters are...amazing. Like honestly, I don't know what to say. It leaves me speechless. Perhaps I've seen it so many times now that I just don't notice the nasty parts, but I think it's more that I'm so fascinated by the characters that those parts aren't important. It's really not a slasher or anything like that. The first time you see it, all you'll see is the nasty parts, but once you get past that there's soo much more to it! (Can you tell I'm a little enthousiastic?:D...hence the avy and the quote in my sig. )Give it at least two tries!! And then, go see Hannibal, Red Dragon, and the new one, Hannibal Rising. :D :D

He was very young though. If you want to see him younger, he was also in Babes in Toyland with Drew Barrymore when she was 12. Haha, now that's funny stuff.

Ok,ok - keep the sympathy coming. You are so understanding it helps. You are making me feel a whole lot better. At my age one does not bouce back easily from these things. I just doubled the dose of my medication, because I could not stand the constant drip drip drip. I fear poor Niamh is in for it - she seems in the beginning stages, where I was on the weekend and I can attest to the fact it only gets worse. Funny she said her left ear is hurting her, in my case it is my right - we could be a matched set of wrecks!
Yes, something wrong is probably global warming and all the crazy weather changes constantly. I had a flu shot - like it really did me a world of good:( Unbelievable that you missed 29 days of class and had all those things. I heard bronchitis is awful. Stomach virus' are no fun either. I have indigestion problems all the time and this illness is not helping that either. Thanks again for all your concern. You must know how miserable I feel. Glad you are better now. I guess there is hope for me.

Yes, yes I know it is true. I keep putting off seeing some of the really good films because I think they will be really disturbing. Cannibalism is one of those subjects, definitely. I did hear it was about a lot more than that. Just that it recalled me to those terrible Domer murders at the time it came out to theaters. I actually watched the Johnny Depp film about Jack the Ripper a couple of times now and liked it a lot. That was totally gruesome, although you did not see the murderer actually commit the crime, just the aftermath. Now I recall name of film - "From Hell".

Yeah really, I feel the same way - no one can copy the MASTER! My favorite is "Dial M. For Murder", too. I love it all taking place in one appartment. "Rear Window" runs a close second. I like "Rope" - also a one location/apartment film. I heard "Notorious" was Hitchcock',s best film but I have never seen it, unfortunately. It is hard to find - expensive to buy online. If they don't have the TV shows out yet, they should. They were great - I always watched them.

Yes, came in the library one day and I could not believe that was Keanu - so I had to watch it. Strange film I thought. I agree - dialogue was awful and Keanu did not fit the role at all. He was so made up looking. It was strange casting. I think that the singer, Chris Issak, was also in the film. He played the father of the little boy - supposidely the reincarnation of Buddha. I kept thinking "what parent would really buy this one stuff?" It was strange casting and a very different film indeed. What did your professor in religions class have to say about the film?
How old was Reeves in Babes in Toyland? Yeah, that would be really funny!:lol: Drew Barrymore was in ET, remember - she was even younger and stole the show with that simulanous screem with ET. She was cute then, so was ET!:D

Fun talking about film and gets my mind off my miseries. "Misery" - now that was a film - strange one.

Though this movie has been around for a while, I had the privilege of seeing it just recently, Pride & Prejudice. What can I say, I loved it.

Thanks for the loving, motherly advice - how nice tea and honey; sounds comforting, like in Peter Rabbit. His mom knew what to give her bunny for comfort. Yes, the hot bath is on the schedule...and soon. Helps me breathe better. Mentholyptus couch drops are helping emensely. I have already eatten two bags full in three days. Hope you can't overdose!

Which Pride and Prejudice did you see? - the BBC miniseries with Colin Firth. I really liked that one, if that was what you were referring to. I love the book and it seemed to follow it well. Oh, maybe you mean the newer film version with Kira Knightly. I saw that one, too. It was more up to date, but I liked it very much. I liked the swing scene and the photography/ cinematography emensely. England never looked more romantic. Soundtrack is lovely, too. I put it into my wish list in Amazon to buy later, when I see it at a good price. I love period films!
Did you see the BBC miniseries "Persaussan" with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root? It was good, too. I loved the end. Both books by Austen are great.

I don't believe that one can overdose on Mentholyptus couch drops, and I really think that those will indeed help the stuffy symptoms. I really hate the plugged ear thing, so yes, you definately have my sympathy!

As for the Pride and Prejudice version -- I saw the newer film version with Kira Knightly. I completely agree with the sentiments you voiced above. Particularly with the music enjoyment. I went to our local music shoppe and purchased the piano music for the movie. What is particularly satisfying is working on the song entitled "Dawn", by Dario Marianelli. What beautiful music!

Amazing movie, philip glass does the soundtrack which makes it even better. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that hasn't seen it.

Hello kiz_paws, glad to meet you, by the way. I like your avy. An illustrator friend of mine has painted her image extensively. He adores her. It is Jean Harlowe, right? With this cold I am in such a fog and my eyesight is fuzzy. Anyway, good to know I can't OD on cough drops:lol: But they are starting to get to me!
So glad you told me about the soundtrack. I will try to buy it. I love collecting movie soundtracks. I like piano music emensely. "Dawn" sounds wonderful. I liked the music when watching the film - it added to the romance and the lovely sets, scenes, etc.
I saw the BBC version years back, but several times now. I think it is BBC or A&E - anyway, it stars Colin Firth...you'll know it when you find it online. It is much much longer and more extensive and closest to the original book. It is slower paced, but the acting is marvelous. It takes a little more patience to watch. All the characters are wonderfully cast and acted. I think I liked the secondary characters best in this longer version. Colin Firth fits the role well. I like to see several versions of adaptations and compare them - just a sort of hobby of mine. I have seen about 4 Jane Eyres, so far.

Hadn't seen it for years. Good baseball, nostalgic, dream, feel good film! Needed something light and enjoyable tonight.

I just saw Blood Diamond for the first time. Whow, very gripping movie. 9/10

Hi Janine!:wave: Yeah Forest Whitiker won best Actor award at this years oscars for his role as Amin in 'last king of scotland'. Its about The reign of Dictator Amin in Uganda in the 70's. James MacAvoy is in the movie as well as a Scotish doctor who Amin Befriends and gets caught up in the tormoil and suffering caused by Amin.

As for my Avian Flu:lol: i just dont understand how i have managed to go through so many tissues! Was constantly waking up last night to blow my nose as it was like a tap. Have also a nice cough to go with it.

I know exactly what you mean; I think I have gone through three boxes of tissues already this week; soon I'll be on my fourth. Try Eucolyptus cough drops - they worked wonders for me. There are posters up in the Airport hear warning about avian bird flu. Instead of looking for real birds carrying bad strains of flu, they should be turning to those big metal birds we call airplanes and the people that fly in them!

When i feel sick in November my doctors couldnt tell me anything about the virus i'd caught as it was a new strain in the country brought in by foreigners emigrating into the country, and our bodies cant handle them as well because we're not used to it like the strains we usually get. our flu jabs are disigned for our strains not the new ones coming in from elsewhere.

I've been taken cough sweets, glycerin honey and lemon, hot honey and lemons, uniflu tablets, vitamin c tablets, vivioptal supplements which i've been taking for the four months and now i'm taking some antibiotics because i think its gone to my chest and i cant handle another chest infection or respitory problem again.:(

I did see our family doctor Tuesday, and if it is not better by Monday, I will go see him again and give him an earful. I already had the sweat fit yesterday, but did not feel any better after it. I just ate some dinner and have no appetite. Only thing tasting good was some canolope - hope the skin is not infected with a fruit disease like "fruity tuity virus":lol:
In Ireland do you call your mother, mam? I have heard people say mum - but maybe that is England. Here it is mom or mommy....like I want my mommy! When I am sick I want my mommy, no matter how old I am:D When I am angry with her or stern I say "mother!"
Interesting how that varies between countries. What do you call your father?

In Ireland do you call your mother, mam? I have heard people say mum - but maybe that is England. Here it is mom or mommy....like I want my mommy! When I am sick I want my mommy, no matter how old I am:D When I am angry with her or stern I say "mother!"
Interesting how that varies between countries. What do you call your father?

Think I will vegetate and watch a movie. Now what movie? I have a ton of tapes and DVD's here so will pick one...maybe a repeat but I do that often. Take care N, and hope you have lots of tissues on hand. I will be on here later - feeling tired now. J

I saw Keeping Mum the other day. It was so great! I want to own it now! I wish I lived in a little English villiage like Little Wallop. :( I thought it was so hilarious how the movie totally sterotyped Americans through Patrick Swayze. The muderous old lady bit was hilarious, the music was so different and cool, the acting was great, and I love to see films every once in a while that have superb acting and that don't have a bunch of whiz-bang special effects.

I give it a 10/10.

Just watched V for Vendetta (again, lol). I love this movie, and I give it 10/10.

"Saints and Soldiers" -- classic war film (WW II) with attention to personal issues of a small group of soldiers. Interesting interactions.

How funny, Niamh meant watch a Romantic Comedy. I wondered if her spelling or typing was off some.
Well instead I watched a romantic, serious film based on a true story
"I Dreamed of Africa". I saw it before, but it was interesting enough to watch again. I love movies that transport you to a new location such as Africa and the wilderness, so I enjoyed it second time around very much. The scenes were beautifully shot although I only own a tape. Kim Basinger plays a divorced woman who takes her young son and moves there with her new husband. I don't know the actor's name, but he is nice to look at - really handsome and appealing, Italian actor, I think. I think Kim's performance was good and quite intense at times. I would probably give the film an 9 out of 10, since there may have been a few things I thought a little unrealistic, but who know - maybe those really happened. All in all I liked the film, and it is a bonus that it really happened to real people. That always interests me. Some people live such interesting lives.

byquist - "Saints and Soldiers" sounds like a good war film. I like war films if they are done well with "interesting interactions", as you put it. Did you see "Thin Red Line" by Terrance Mallick? It is an interesting war film with interaction and thoughts being revealed in some of the soldier's minds.

Kiz - thanks so much for that nice paragraph - instructions on getting better from our colds, but mostly thanks for your concern and sympathy. It means a lot really. I have tried mostly everything on your list I think. Very thoughtful of you.

Lily Adams, "Keeping Mum" sounds like a riot. I like films like that. I loved the film "The Man Who Went Up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain"- ever see it? Takes place in Wales. Slowpaced but quite humorous and really happened I believe. "Keeping Mum" sounds something like the American film "Throw Mamma From the Train" - that movie was too much, continuous laughs!

Just saw the movie 300, and I think they dropped the ball on that one. The whole premise of the movie is great, but then it falters when it pays more attention to style than substance. 5/10 mostly for the imagery.
