No, I'm not trying to be funny. Weirdly enough, that's how I greet most of my friends (the ones who know I'm not as crazy as I seem). Well anyway, let's get on with the introductions shall we...
When we were in college, we had to take an aptitude test to determine exactly what field we would do best in &, ironically enough, I got advertising...& law, but that's irrelevant. Ironic because I think those in the field have to sell their souls to do well & I'm just not the type that can lie with a straight face or sell my own Grandmother to get ahead. So, I settled for trying to improve the quality of the online content we are bombarded with everyday. And (not blowing my own trumpet here on anything) I'm pretty good at what I do although, of late, I've become more & more disinterested in the repetitive rubbish I have to keep editing.
I have a Post Grad in Media & have been working for the past 2 years...so, not a lot of time. I've always been a bit obsessive about books but haven't been able to read anything of note in the last couple of years. I suppose that when you get so bogged down with work that you want to scream at the top of your lungs, you tend to read flakier literature rather than anything too complex. I feel all this flakiness has been slowly bringing down my IQ, which of course does not make me a happy camper. So, I'm doing an M.A. in Literature & working at the same time. Not easy, considering work hours & travel time but I hope I can make it work. I want to be an Editor at a publishing firm before I have one foot in the grave. And I was hoping to ask all you lovely people here to help get me there because I don't know a thing about literature really. Just stumbling along in the dark, hoping for some guidance. Oh, and I'm a quick learner **winks & grins**

New to this forum,
I was searching for free online literature material when I stumbled upon this place which, after spending a whole four hours perusing through, I think is the most awesome site in that field other than Gutenberg.org whose layout is pretty embryonic compared to this one in terms of ease in navigation. I am male, 18 years of age from Kenya, Africa. I chose 'mgemah' (spelled correctly without the 'h') as a user name which means <i> 'one who taps Palm wine' </i> in Kiswahili because that is exactly what I intend to do in this place (the wine here being knowledge, of course). I anticipate to learn a lot from my future interactions (with you) in this forum and also that maybe others will get to learn a thing or two from me too. The other reason why I decided to join is that lately, precisely for the past five months, I have developed a serious liking for literature and writing and I think it would do me some good if I could have some constructive criticisms of my "pieces", which I intend commence posting soon, by people who share the same passion as me.
I look foward to enjoying my stay here.

Is there anyone who can relate to the fact that a writer's work is not getting any or enough exposure to publishers?
Hello!!! I have always loved Mark Twain (although I have not read any of his books to completion:). Besides the fact that I think he is a FOX, I felt a kindred-spirit in him and felt better about myself when I realized he was able to thrive while having a brain like mine. Twain said, "When you appeal to my head, I don't feel it; but when you appeal to my heart, I do feel it."
While I had not yet been diagnosed with ADD, I read a little out of one of his books where he was describing a scene in life: "......." & this is what lead me to this site!!!!!!!!
I need to know what book I got that "....." out of!!! It goes something like this: (I'm paraphrasing:) "re. a perfectly timed schedule of morning ritual where the slightest mishap could throw off his whole day...." ie. two minutes to shave, etc.
I am ellenc and a newcomer - I am very much older than most of the other members, but I intend to be just as enthusuiastic! CANT SPELL!

So I spent some time scouring the world wide web for a decent online book forum and I found you guy's!!!
Ever since I was about 13 years old I was exposed to the Sci-Fi world and got sucked into it completely. The first book I can remember reading and being moved in some way or another was Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
I look forward to learning and contributing to the forum!
