Hey folks, I'm a English Major and love reading and talking about literature. I currently exploring the world of academic writing and reading any book that is worth reading. I love to discuss and love to hear others thoughts on Literature. I enjoy Short Stories, Early Medieval Lit, American Literature, Latin, Grammar, Lit Theory, Classics and Great Books. Hello Peeps, I've only recently joined the forum. I live near Bath in England. Apart from riding my motorbike and walking my dog Harvey I have been busy writing. If you have read the Mayor of Casterbridge or any Thomas Hardy novels you may be interested in it. It's a parody of Micheal Henchard called 'Henchard The Missing Years'. He lies, cheats and robs his way around America inbetween selling his wife and child and their subsequent return to Casterbridge. You'll find it on Amazon. That's kept me busy recently and I have now started writing a legal textbook.
Hi folks, my name is Paul Maher Jr. and I have a number of literary interests, reading and writing. Primarily I have researched and written on Jack Kerouac. I am also working on some projects related to Henry Thoreau, such as annotating his unpublished Extracts relating to the Indians. I read widely and deeply and am enthused about reading and responding in these forums.
Hi everyone. I'm 62 years old and do not have a formal education. Because of that I am self conscious to be here among college educated people. I wanted to go to college when younger but lacked confidence in my intellect and didn't have the finances. I have read the classics and enjoy classical music. I am getting along in years but read as much as I can, listen to great music, try to learn more every day, and appreciate the "finer" things in life. I especially enjoy philosophy, history, Thoreau, biographies on the founding fathers of America, landscape paintings and the natural beauty of the fall landscape of New England. I have lots of questions about music and literature so please be patient. I have tried to learn as much as I could on my own but there are so many things I have questions about.

Im Victoria, plodding on with the completely solitary task of writing a 30,000 word postgraduate dissertation on Urban Gothic literature from 1845-1900. While I am enjoying it, I decided having contact with other literary people live yourselves will probably go a long way to preserve my sanity whilst keeping me on track with the big task Im faced with.
I would mainly love to meet anyone in the same boat as me, or with any fascination concerning Victorian litertature.

I love books, read everything from great literature to cereal boxes. However, the reason for my confusion is that I wanted to ask a question and could not seem to find a way to do that. I live in Florida, but I am a born and bred New Yorker - yes, NY, the city. Manhattan. I am there now and still have a thrill each time I go over the GWB. OK, so I have a great memory and remember plots, characters, etc. However, I am blanking on a story I read a few years ago. Is this the place to ask? Why can I not see where to post this? The story was written by a famous woman (American) author. It is a short story about two orphaned little girls who live with a mean aunt. She has them out on a dreary farm. They have no friends or toys. She gets a puppy and the children are thrilled. But just when the older girl is happy with her new friend, the aunt puts the dog into a school that trains dogs to be ferocious. It is a terribly sad story, but very moving. Any ideas? Can this be posted so that others may answer it? Thanks. Arianne

I'm a man with interests in writing, reading, languages and translation. I like literature of all genres from all over the world, although I focus on fiction and poetry. I prefer original versions as long as I can understand the language. My native ones are Catalan and Spanish.
