Hey guys. Virgo's my pseudonym, but it's all you guys need to know, so I'm Virgo. I'm a sixteen year old lit nerd that loves rock n' roll. I'm actually really new to the classic lit scene, which is really why I joined the site, so any "mentoring" (NOT patronizing, big difference.) is greatly appreciated.
I love to read and write, obviously, mostly mystery and fantasy. Dragons, faeries, magic(k), elves, dwarves, ancient languages, murder, vampires (real ones, not the sparkly kind), you name it. If it's weird, strange or just different, I probably want to read about it.
However, words are only half of life. The other half is music. I'll listen to anything that's actually music, and my list of favorites is insanely long, but if you're bored and really want to know, message me.
I also noticed a spot for submitted stories/poems, though I didn't look at it in much detail, so maybe you'll see some of my stuff up there, maybe not, but keep and eye or two out.

I just joined up after going through a few different sites to weigh my options. I chose this forum for a number of reasons, but mainly because it seemed the least hostile.
I am currently deployed in Afghanistan (as a Marine) and I have plenty of time and little to do. When I'm not busy I am usually reading, so I thought getting involved in something like this might be a good way to stay involved in my reading, rather than reading book after book without ever contemplating, and thus ever understanding them.
My favorite author? Couldn't answer that question. You read different authors for different reasons. However, the authors I most often turn back to for pleasure alone would be Oscar Wilde, Nikos Kazantzakis, and Mark Twain.
That is about all I have to offer. I understand that when most people read a book it becomes a mirror, therefore, we rarely see the same thing. However, discussion is rarely counter-productive so I look forward to learning from (and with) all of you.
Hi everyone :) After my two neighbours right upon me, I guess it's my turn to introduce myself.
First of all, I apologize for my English ; being French, English is not my first language, and if there is any mistake left, please forgive me. I do my best, though !
I am 17 years old, I'll turn 18 in December. As I said, I'm French, I was born in South France, grew up in North, live in Paris since I'm 11. I love reading since I'm able to, and got literature-oriented even in my scholarship. This is my last year in Highschool, I study in a Literary "branch" (this is the French system : you mainly have to choose between Sciences, Economics and Literature for your two last years in Highschool), therefore I have a lot of Literature and Philosophy each week ! Starting September, I will study English & Film Studies in King's College London -hopefully !
I can't say who my favourite author is, they are so many ! But I would say that William Shakespeare is my favourite author, for I love him both for his plays, poetry and character, for as I discovered his work, I discovered a whole world -the Elizabethan Era- with which I completely fell in love. I also loveChristopher Marlowe, Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde, Charles Lamb, Margaret Mitchell, Arthur Conan Doyle, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Alan Benett, Jane Austen, Scott F. Fitzgerald, and many others.
I love Literature and want to share it with plenty of people ; but the reason why I joined this perticular forum is the language. I can talk in French whenever I want, but I really have an affinity with the English language and authors who write/wrote in English, that I want to talk about Literature in English, or at least try to. It'd be a great experience, especially before going to London for a Literature degree !
I'm really looking forward to talking and exchanging with everyone here, for there are so many things that I would like to learn, read and say ! Thank you in advance !

First of all, I am brazilian and my name is Marcelo Niederauer. I love to read since I was a child. So, this forum will be perfect to discuss my interests in Literature.
I can say I am a beginner, because there are a lot of books that I want to read, but I am just 16 years old...
I think some of my favorite authors are Oscar Wilde, William Shakespeare and Victor Hugo.
There are many Brazilian and Portuguese writers who are very good, though.
I enjoy poetry too.
Well, please forgive my mistakes for Portuguese is my mother language, but I swear I will try hard to write correctly.
I can speak Portuguese, English and Spanish, so you can write to me in any of these languages.
I am learning German at school and French at home. I wish I could write with you in these languages too.
I can not forget to say that I love classical music. I know that it isn't the topic of the forum... Just sharing, in case some of you enjoy it too, we could talk about some biographic books of composers, for example.:nopity:

There is not much to be said about me. I am composed of nothing but facts, really. I'm 18, turning 19 this October. I live on Long Island, and generally sequestered in my room reading. I occasionally work with my father installing auto glass and 'normal' glass though. I read on the way to jobs.
I'm currently on a science-fiction and Albert Camus kick. In all honesty, I can't say how this happened, but I'd easily say that science-fiction is my favorite genre and Camus my favorite author (Wells has to be equal to Camus though.) this undoubtedly will change, but is the current case.
That's it. Not much to look at. The quote, for those interested, can only be attributed to Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Note: I misused Carroll's quote. I am the farthest thing from a "great puzzle."
Hi all, I just joined today and came across this forum by accident actually! I was looking for some inspiring poetry for a postmodern essay and came across this forum. I like to write poetry when I feel inspired and thought it might be interesting to get a bit more well read and talk to others who like literature etc.
So anyway, hi everyone I guess!
My favourite book is nonexistent, but I have a few favourites that changed my perspective on life; Catch 22, The Fountainhead, Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Road. Off the top of my head.
I'm currently training to be a psychotherapist so my focus is somewhat split, but I want to kind of keep in touch with the side of me that really enjoys literature.

I am happy to join this community, because i am fond of literature. I like different genres, but I need to say that more often I read Science Fiction and Fantasy books. It seems to me that I know this genre well although I am just 24-years old man. And I want to know more.
My favorite authors are Jorge Luis Borges, Hermann Hesse, Stanislaw Lem, Strugatsky brothers, Roger Zelazny (it is obvious, isn't it? Just look at my nickname), Clifford Simak, Ray Bradbury, Gene Wolfe, Erich Maria Remarque and James Herriot.
I am russian and live in Moscow all my life. So I want to apologize for my English. It is very possible that I already done some mistakes. I try to do my best, and my English is improving.
Currently I am working as a cpp programmer and I like my job, but this is not the point.
I want to say why I have decided to join this community in the first place. I like reading, discussing and reviewing the books, but this is not all. When you are reading a book in original, like me, you want discuss it using the same language, not your native one. So I have joined to you.
Yikes... I don't really know how to describe myself because I'm at the point of my life where I really don't have a definite answer to "who I am." I feel like last week I was hell bent on being Ian the Musician, and now I'm giving Ian the writer a whirl.
So ultimately, I hoping through this website and through writing that I will be able to say who I am and where I'm going. But at this point, I'll just have to go with "Hello, I am Ian." Thank you for the opportunity to do so and I look forward to finding new and interesting people!
Hello, My name is Meriem, I am Algerian. I'm studying for the MA degree in Crosscultural studies. I love your forums I have been using the data on these forums since I was an undergraduate student. Now I'm searching for a topic for my thesis, I'm thinking about Algerian literature, Maybe the theme of violence in Algerian literature. But I'm also fascinated by postmodernism as a philosophy and theory!
My user name, Tellem Chaho, is the title of a book containing four short stories written by an Algerian author, Mouloud Maammeri, from the Amazigh area, he wrote about this area and its traditions during the colonial period. The four stories are folk tales told by grand mothers in the Amazigh area (north west Algeria). Tellem Chaho simply means ''Once Upon a Time"

I'm Hugh in England.
Too tired to be coherent so here's something haphazard..
Grew up loving Arthur Ransome and CS Lewis. Had a Biggles phase, read lots of science fiction. Don't read SF now, but would always be willing to read Ray Bradbury.
I enjoy studying languages, partly so I can read things I loved in translation, in the original. So I learned Spanish to read Borges, French to read Maigret and italian to read Guareschi (Don Camillo stories) and later 'discovered' the genius of Dante. I have never studied these languages to a high (university) level, but reading was always my strongest discipline.
In English I have fits and starts of reading Dickens, Austen, Hardy, often after watching a tv adaptation. I read detective stories: cadfael, Adam Dalgliesh, Wycliffe. I have an ambition (possibly misguided) to write for children so I read children's novels and poems - Pulman, Rowling etc.
I enjoy telling stories, usually from traditional sources, so I read collections of folktales, fairy stories etc.
That feels like a lot but on the contrary I don't feel I have enough time to read.
