I live in Mexico City. Although English is not my mother's tongue, I read books in this language.
As for Turgenev, do yourself a favor, drop whatever you are doing now (drop her on the matress) and buy "The Essential Turgenev", by Elizabeth Cheresh Allen. You will find "The Diary of a Superfluous Man", "A Nest of Gentry", "Rudin", "First Love" and, of course, "Fathers and Sons", plus an excellent introduction. Publisher is Northwester University Press.

I just registered today and I cannot wait to get involved with this forum. I am a student studying English Education and I have a passion for literature. My favorite author is Hemingway even though I have many other favorite authors. I absolutely love American Literature from the 20th century and I am also falling in love with British Literature. I don't have a favorite time period with British Literature because I love it all like Beowulf, Chaucer, Shakespeare, etc.
Some of my hobbies consist of reading, writing, studying, and working with children :)

I just signed up, after finding this forum online, while searching for interesting sites that are discussing and sharing opinions about literature.
My name is Tina and I am German, though I read classics like Austen, Dickens etc. in English, since I prefer the original version.
I've been always a book worm, starting already when I could barely read a book by myself. I had the luck that even without having much money at home, we always had alot of books. Later I was a very regular visitor to all public libraries that I could reach with my bicycle. Now in my mid-thirties, I think my love for books can be considered hopeless. ;o)
I am looking forward, to read about your opinions and every now and then throwing in my own 2 cents.

Hello :) I'm a third Language & Lit student. Love discussing books. Um, favourite author is a hard one, it depends what book I'm involved in at the time! I guess an all time favourite is Terry Pratchett as far as authors go, he never fails to entertain. My favourite book, is White Oleander by Janet Fitch, I adore the petry and emotion in that novel. But it's hard to say that's what defines my interests, because I honestly will read anything and enjoy a wide spectrum of authors, topics, writing styles etc. I'm South African, and after these last two years of studying I'm amazed at the home grown talent, I can only hope to follow in their footsteps some day. Not really sure what else to say, besides the fact that I am most certainly not on this forum to get anybody to do my "homework" for me. I'm a correspondence student, so my success depends entirely on my own skill and motivation, so no sneaky shortcuts for me. But I would love to get some perspectives on the books I'm doing, it's the only downside to correspondence, very little interaction. Anyway, that's me in a very thin nutshell :)

I halted my search for a quality literary forum some time ago and stumbled upon this just recently! Essentially I'm just gawking for some ersatz interaction regarding special literary topics that happen to be outside the realm of my friends and peers. I've simply come to soak up the collective enlightenment and dig on some wordiness and opinions from what appears to be an active and erudite bunch.

My name is Oberon. I spent several years reading all the fantasy, scifi, mysteries, and thrillers I could get my hands on. I found that all of them were lacking something, however. So, I decided to stop moping about it and write my own! I've started out with a few, and I've decided to try a short story first. I hope all of you following this will look for it out soon! Some call it Missouri, I've got other, rather subjective terms for my isolated location at the time being.
Regardless, I'm over here because I enjoy writing, but do you know how hard it is to get someone to read your stuff?
I.E. You have something to write about, you had a nightmare, but it'd be a brilliant short story. So, you write it, but your friends/family read it and are upset that you have such negative thoughts inside your mind...or at least subconcious [by the way, my spelling is dead awful].
I.E. You have a brilliant, romantic, realistic dream. You've got to write about it, don't use names, but know it'd be smashing on paper. You have your significant other read it; they look at you, thinking they were the one in the dream [naturally you're terrified to tell them that it wasn't...].
Those kind of situations are what bring me to the table. I'm not a profound writer, professional poet, or linguistic legend.
I just want to feedback from other people.
