Hi !! I'm new here, I like literature and I hope we will have interesting discussions!
To the esteemed community of the bookish tribe : These.
I am from South Africa and I am honoured to be part of this community.
Here in SA we shrug of life's challenges with a resigned shrug , muttering :
Ja , Well , No , Fine !
I look forward to some interesting reading on this forum.

Hi! I am Regi and I love to read. I have a lot of trouble with my eyes and reading is not the pleasure it used to be. I am thinking maybe reading online may be easier for me since the print is larger and I am hoping I will be able to see it a little better.
I love the classics. I love Shakespeare, the Brontes, Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott and on and on.
Hey Everyone-- I'm an American high schooler. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I do enjoy sitting down to an occasional thriller. I spend a lot of time reading and writing, as well as practicing music.
When it comes to listening music-- i'm really into soundtracks. Batman, Alice in Wonderland, Last of the Mohicans...(*sigh*). Rock-- not so much, only when I'm in the right mood;)
I'm obsessed with classics. I'm in the middle of Plato's Republic right now....fun stuff...
peace out y'all;)
Hello there all. I'm 2ndSerpentarius because someone always gets the First Serpentarius, so I have to settle for being the Second Serpentarius. Oh well.
I haven't read a good book in a loooong time. I pretty much stopped reading books when I became a teenager and started playing video games/watching television/posting on the internet nonstop. It's too bad too since I used to love reading books when I was young. But various media I've recently encountered have convinced me to resume reading books again. I wasn't sure what books I'd like to start reading so I registered here specifically for recommendations and I shall post a formal request very soon. Thank you very much.
Hello,
I love writing and reading, and I would like to post some excerpts from my new book for feedback.
Hello Everybody,
My name is as you've all probably guessed is Tom, my hobbies include writing, reading and playing the bass. My favorite books are (to name a few) American Gods, The New York Trilogy, Necronomicon (not the spellbook), Sabriel and a whole lot more. I'm a bit of a writing noob but, I do try so just bare with me.
I'm sure it will be nice speaking to all of you and reading some of your fantastic stories.
Well ... to findout if I have this system right ... G'day to all who might read and reflect here and if -- as I am -- you are possibly interested in some discussions from time to time about selected aspects of writing fiction -- as I was upon discovering this site -- searching as I was ... insights into Nabokov and his novel "Lolita" ... then (flow of conscious just now) we might well stimulate each and others thinking from time to time, even create a small community of kindred souls from places everywhere. Thus, this Aussie girl (a little bit published) would love to hear from you. Cheers....
P.S. I see my first post did work.

Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone.
I am a British woman currently living in Nova Scotia with my Husband. I Have two children and two stepchildren the eldest of which is 21 and the youngest is 16.
I have written poetry for myself since i was a child, but I have never had anything published, I have never been a member of any forums before so I am a complete newcomer to all of this.
Having been a cook for many years in a family run pub in the U.K. I now find myself at a loose end, not yet having a job here in N.S.
My favourite book of all time is George Orwell's 1984, I first read this book when I was in school and got completely sucked into it's dark oppressive world. I could smell the dust covered objects and feel the faded peeling wallpaper in Winston and Juliette's secret room.
I recently read Jean Paul satre's Nausea, it had a similar effect on me, I felt as if I were there sitting in the cafe with Antoine, seeing it through his eyes.
I do like various other authors too, from Ian M. Banks, Clive Barker and James Herbert to Shakespear, shelley and H.G.Wells . Anyway, Thats a bit about me.I am looking forward to being a part of this community and making my very first post.
I think that this can be as simple or complicated as we each make it to be as is life. I would love to hear why you read literature and why you feel others should too.
Okay It is my turn. Hahaha.I just joined and I think I am ready to give a quick introduction of myself. It is very tough for me. I think I am very hard to understand.I do not like something for always. Even my music teacher thinks so too. Lol. I am doing my Master degree in English Literature and also doing degree course in Japanese language. I like Japanese "anime" and that is for ever. I wonder why this never changes? I like to walk in open lonely roads in a sunny day of winter. I like Roses especially the white one. And hmmm...... I like to read books and I write short stories when I am free. I am always late to catch the bus when going to classes. My friend hate me for that and I get usually scolded for that too from her. But I never learn. I have very few friends and I have one and only best friend called Risa. Ok and I like to draw too{nothing special}.I like the line "To be or not to be" from Hamlet. God knows why? That is all from me. Hope I did not bore anyone and made him or her to fell in sleep in the desk.
Hello All,
I am a lover of language, words, and literature. But I joined The Literature Network because I was trying to get some opinions to help me in deciding how to reduce the number of books in my collection. I've been lugging around a huge library of very large and old books for what seems to be a few centuries from country to country. These books are falling apart now with age. I have to get rid of at least one of my Complete Works of Chaucer, Complete Works of Shakespeare, etc. The problem is - which one(s). So I thought those more up on the latest research in the field could advise me.
I live in a very humid environment without such niceties as air conditioning or dehumidifiers. There are many critters here that eat books. I can't protect them any more. I live on a small pension in a rain forest in Costa Rica.
I hate just throwing books away. It feels criminal. But nobody wants old books in less than good condition and especially here, nobody seems to want old books in English. Any suggestions? There are no local public libraries. :confused5:
