Do you think that it is degrading that it is expected for a woman to take the name of her husband in marriage?
No.
Would you ever ask a man to take his wife's last name in marriage?
Never. Unless his last name was something he would want to change. I mean if your name was Poophole or Wourthles or something people make fun of then sure, why not. But I think the woman in most cases should take on her husbands name as a sign of respect. I'll take my husband's, but that is also because my name is impossible to spell as a child in school and I plan on having many children. It would be cruel to give them my last name. :]

Not for me, because I live in the same town as my parents. For people who don't... no, I think its more of a "homecoming" than a "vacation." (And as for the baseball card thing, tell me it wasn't like a Babe Ruth from 1927 kind of deal)
