I highly doubt I will ever be like that. Though it's healthy to be a bit cynical sometime, a true cynical outlook means a loss of hope and joy...and I for one do not want to ever live that way.

no...I have been asked that before by well meaning people, while I was in a long term realationship and in front of the person I was involved with. The strange thing is that everyone assumed we weren't married because of he not wanting to marry me, when it was in fact the opposite. I was the gun shy one.

Well it's never happened , but if it did and if being calm, logical and charming didn't work and I felt this person was being unreasonable , I would ask to see his/her superior.And yes, I would show my anger in a cool controlled sort of way. The most important thing for me would be to get myself out of the situation, so would use any tactic that I felt would work.
