Hello from BookBuff, new member
Hello, I am glad to find this site and meet some new friends. I am a 51 year old female, married, have 5 children ages 9-19, work full time, and live in Israel. A couple of years ago my kids got big enough that I finally had a little bit of free time, so I resumed my old and beloved hobby: reading. My passion now is the British classics, although I will occassionally read something newer if it is clean and well done.
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but (sorry to offend anyone) I found it very boring work. I didn't major in English because I prefered math, but I always loved to write poetry. I wrote a book a few years ago about my spiritual experiences. When I had one friend read it, she said she loved it. That was gratifying, but still no one will publish it.
My recent excursion into the British classics started with everything I could get my hands by Arthur Conan Doyle (there is a lot more than Sherlock Holmes). After that I added various other authors like Austen, Bronte, Gaskell, to name a few. I have collected a lot of books in the hopes that someday I will have more time to read! I have also recently discovered sites where you can read or listen to all kinds of books for free.
I recently read Travels in the Interior of Africa, a true and fascinating story of a British adventurer in the 1700's. The latest book I read is Ruth by Elizabeth Gaskell. That was a gut wrenching, unforgettable tale, as captivating as The Count of Monte Cristo (at least for me). If anyone has read Ruth and wants to talk about it, please write to me because I have so many questions about WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY they each did what they did!!!!! It was such a thought provoking story! I only wish they each could have found happiness with each other!!!!! I suppose that was not the point of the story though.
I am not a professional writer, so please don't be too harsh with me - when I have time I do try to write correctly. Actually, I spent some years as a volunteer editor/proofreader.
I look forward to participating here when I have time. Blessings to everyone.

Good day to you friends, ladies and gentlemen
Hi guys, I've been a member of this forum a while but not posted anything yet so I thought I'd start by saying hello.
About me, basically my name is Robin, I am a 2008 graduate of Bath Spa University (BA (Hons) Psychology and English 2/1). My modules at uni were in Gothic, Poetry, Literary Theory, Shakespeare and Literature and the Environment (Ecocriticism). I've a feeling I've missed one out somewhere, but never mind.
I've always been interested in literature, ever since I first saw 'Oliver' on tv as a child, although I suspected my early reading of 'A Christmas Carol' also helped. I've always had a romantic streak and also been quite empathic, and something of the sadness in Dickens novels really got me I think. That feeling stays with me to this day, and I just love it when there's a new Dickens dramatisation out on tv (Andrew Davies is the king of these at present in my opinion - watching 'Little Dorritt' again on DVD).
Besides Dickens I also like Wuthering Heights, Tess of the D'Urbevilles, all things Gothic, Shelley, Keats, Shakespeare.... well loads of stuff really, but those works are perhaps my favourites.
Starting to ramble, so thats it for now.
Ciao.
