Now yer talkin', GG.
Seems like rock-n-roll and getting hassled by the cops went together back in classical times, eh?
The Doors ~ Roadhouse Blues: http://youtu.be/mJ9GDiYU0-I
Sancho, here's a few from The Doors I've favored:
Moonlight Drive

^ I Agree Paul, Python lee Jackson's Broken Dream, one of my all time favorites. Early Rod Stewart and one of his best.
This is how we did it in the old daysh shonny.
Led Zep. Whole lotta love.

This song has everything, it is an almost perfect example of the 70's rock genre. Radar Love.

I've just listened to the whole of this Muddy Waters album and it is getting a second playing, great stuff, love the blues from time to time:

Blues? Rock? It is all quite similar. This rocks anyway so it counts. Of course without blues there would be no rock anyway and I can't find a blues thread, so quit jumping down my throat in advance. :ciappa:
Ah - now you're compromising the rockness of the thread. Next thing you know, Fleetwood Mac will be posted - and not their fantastic earlier stuff either, just their good 80s tunes.
In fact here's one now - uh ah.

Every so often one writes something that evokes an unexpected reaction so strong that it's a bit worrying. About ten years ago I wrote the following, and it became apparent that I was quite likely to be lynched.....
I do not dislike Stevie Nicks merely because she sings like a whistle in a plughole. I dislike her for her style - she thinks she's a faerie elf but she looks like a transvestite gnome. I dislike her for her vapid, groundless philosophising. I dislike her for her contrived, solipsistic lyrics and for the fact that she believes she's writing poetry. I dislike her for her cultivated air of floaty, ethereal otherworldliness - which consists mainly of wearing dresses with wizard-sleeves in which she waves her arms about like a four-year-old trying to be a tree. But mainly I dislike her for her unshakeable and conceited conviction that she's any freaking good at anything apart from lending some post-acid masturbatory glamour to an otherwise talented but unphotogenic rock band.
I hope that's clear. Thank you.
Tomorrow - Judy Garland: what a terrible waste of time.
My feelings towards Stevie haven't changed a bit, and those feelings extend to anything with which she's associated.
Getting back to the Classic Rock thing, though...
Well, you know...
She was trying to very ethereal and floaty in that video, and yes she did wave it about like a four year old. Not sure about your assessment of her visual qualities though. I heard many a rasping lager lout eulogise her qualities in the 80s. (I spent a lot of the 80s in pubs).
I still like the tune.
Well what about some of their earlier stuff?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h6J2W17V9A
I can't say I have ever listened to any Fleetwood Mac, it sounds promising though.
Stevie Nicks used to have a great voice, but she pretty much destroyed it on the very long and hard-partying Rumours tour.
And why all the venom for a completely harmless eccentric?
Newer stuff

They started with a heavy blues influence and became more pop like with the Stevie Nicks era.
What about this version of Comfortably Numb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omv3ozIT4jM
I think I covered the 'why' pretty thoroughly.
Venom? That wasn't venom. That was considered dismissiveness with some sarcasm thrown in. Venom is much less hurtful.
Her? Harmless? For twenty years, you couldn't go into a wine bar in this country without hearing bloody Rhiannon.
On top of which, she's not eccentric. She's self-absorbed and vain. Hers isn't some slightly dotty and blameless way of seeing the world. It's egotistic smugness turned into a career. She purports to be an artist, and artists are judged by their work - which in her case involves writing, singing and twirling her skirt. I'm judging her in those terms. Though, to be fair, she's a world-class skirt twirler.
Venom, dude. I don’t even like Stevie Nicks, but your diatribe comes off as venomous, pompous, and somewhat sour-grapish. I’m just saying.
Interesting Paul, the epitome of classic rock.
The Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silo meet Pink Floyd.
How about some common ground in the form of Tom Petty and a friend...

.
But, to me at least, funny. And it wouldn't be funny if it weren't disproportionately pompous and venomous - and actually, pretty superfluous, given the chances of it having any effect at all at this late stage. None of which stops it being, I'd contend, true.
While we're here though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6B6CyZHnZU
Ah-hah, hmm, [assumes a parade-rest posture] yes well, carry on, I suppose.
I saw this on a programme last night. Ihaven't heard it since it was out and my mates played it in the sixth form. Catchy.

I'll never understand the charm of Sabbath. I mean, slightly more convincing in the elfin and gossamer-winged department than Stevie Nicks, I grant you - but I can't hear what else they have going for them. And I've heard a hell of a lot of Sabbath.
Feeling so tired....
I have to agree. I like the odd sabbath track though. The Stones song is sublime. I realise my knowledge of their stuff is somewhat thin and crispy.
I like this one - bad it aint.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MA3DNlBMNL0
But what else do you need? I think we have had this particular Sabbath conversation but at what they do they just can't be beat. I'm talking in particular about the Ozzy era Sabbath you understand, but some of the Dio stuff is OK too all the other singers with them never ever worked. Black Sabbath with Ian Gillian?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaUjWeUXAhw&feature=fvst
(Of course, the riff still kicks bottom hole.)
Certainly, Sabbath are held in high regards with today's makers of rock/metal noise:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAlUd3MTNWA
(There, I've gone from peace with the Dalai Lama to rock with Black Sabbath and Metallica. Strange thing Litnet!)
I think Black Sabbath are highly addictive. Take this one for instance:

Addictive.
How far back is classic defined as? Is it the same as cars?
or should we just open a new thread for new rock?
What about a pop one too? And blues? (But not jazz).
And acoustic versions? Or instrumentals? (But not jazz).
Our threads here could keep us going for another few months.
Any love for CCR in this thread?

This thread needs a kick...
I wish someone would phone...
How about a Hod Rod tune from one of the original ROCKERS!

Bo Diddley, Road Runner
So nobody here likes good music? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciw8UwlbjhM
Oasis sucks.
Nothing up for a while? Try "Three of a Perfect Pair," King crimson live:
