Well, I'm done with this thread. It's pretty lame when people aren't mature enough to play along. If you're just going to choose neither every time someone posts songs you don't like, maybe you should refrain from responding and let someone else.
Neither, and the fact that you like such nationalism is no doubt a suitable
reflection on yourself.:biggrin5:

I can't say I would have chosen any of yours Mutatis either. I think we've had that discussion though.
Really? The second post with Opeth was to annoy Emil. But there's no reason someone can't choose between a relatively mellow Metallica song and a version of the song played by four cellists. I'm sorry, but if you're so close minded that you can't choose a classical version over a heavy metal version, you shouldn't play a game which tells you to choose the song you prefer. I bet Emil clicked the first link, saw "Metallica," and didn't even listen to th second.
As to your links, Paul, they're not working on my iPad for some reason.
My computer has been playing up lately and it's not easy to call up some of the video postings on this site but I finally managed to get these two up only to discover no musical content whatsoever and the words the biggest load of rubbish imaginable. I might be wrong but there's one line that appears to be something about sitting on a cornflake or possibly corncrake; either way it's a lot of nonsense. However I will give it to the first one on the lunacy stakes.
Now how about these two ?

I know a medium. I'll pass on your comments to John Lennon.
The Beatles' Ticket to Ride - the Carpenters' version is better I think.
I prefer the solo voice in the Lisa del Bo version versus a too refined and subtle choral version.
How about these two guitar instrumental variations on a popular Dire Straits song:

or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KsVt...eature=related
.
I'll settle this:
ok after listening and going back and forth several times I'm going to pick the first one.

Once again, I'll go with the older/ original version, a decision made easier the moment I saw the second option was the Black Crowes version.
Next challenge:
Clementine 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqOrZP2EpNk
or
Clementine 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efVt4B6W4UI
.
I hate to admit that I like the Neil Young version.

I think I like the Bob Seger version better. I don't like Metallica to start with and I knew Bob Seger only by name, so I might have been a bit prejudiced.

I've posted 2 of these before, but I've found a great third version. I like them all for different reasons. What about you?

I had to go with the Bobby Bland instrumental.
The first few secpnds of the video caught a portion of Bland singing, so I cheated and listened to the full version sung which influenced my decison.
Regardless, the instrumental version on its own conveys a more soulfull, blues feel to the tune.
How about two versions of Route 66:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdhJMKegnCI
.
Chuck Berry, but they both had their merits. A tip of the hat to our Aussie comrades:

Tom looks so young!
I like me some Tom Waits but I prefer The Seekers version

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T59ej_TlXE
Marianne Faithfull for sure. Adore her irrationally!

All three are fine, but I must go with Satchmo.
Mostly because I had recently picked up an Armstrong CD from a bargain bin.
Why Louis was relegated to the bargain I'll never know.
How about Shambala?

I like the Stevenson song better but I like Three Dog Night video better.

Ha! no question, Big Mama hands down and that's just based on the video title.
You see, I couldn't watch your video...the signal must have gotten scrambled crossing the Sabine.
How about "My Old Flame"?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW6BgNK-OAU ...did you catch the opening line?..."Please sing, the fun's all over if you go to bed"
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D2A32KUTq0 ....at least stay with it long enough to hear Peter Lorre at 1:30
.
I'm going with Spike until about halfway through , after that I'd pick Mae.
How about:

An interesting combinaton but I know which one I prefer.

In terms of musical rendition, the first one certainly. The video associated with the second choice provides an entirely new perspective on " valley".
Continuing with the current theme:

The second one :)

Bit of very belated trivia: That's not Peter Lorre, but rather legendary voice artist Paul Frees doing a highly exaggerated impersonation (which Lorre said he enjoyed very much). It was so popular that when Lorre was asked to do it himself during a live radio performance, he had to learn to do Frees' version of his own voice.
I'll thank you sir to never correct me again. One of the very pillars of my youthful foundation has been fractured, the damage is irreparable. I was somewhere around five years old when my father began spoon feeding me the likes of Spike Jones, Arthur Lyman, Bob Wills, et al and for all this time I would have gone to my grave convinced it was Peter Lorre. (Actually, I believe it was the mischievous older brother who convinced me it was Lorre.)
All I had to do was pull the album and flip it over...

So what next Mr. Calidore, I suppose you'll tell me that Tom Fogerty Is singing "There's a bad moon on the rise" not "...bathroom on the right"?
Or when I back mask "Stairway to Heaven" I'll hear "drol si natas"?
--------------
I prefer the ABBA version, although Chris de Burgh's cover isn't bad.
The Chris de Burgh video is nice though; it brought back fond memories of Koln (imagine two dots above the "o", not sure how to do that on the iPad )
Next round:
Arthur Lyman

Spike Jones

Half full, man, half full. Had it actually been Lorre, we wouldn't have had a great story about an actor having to learn how to do a parody of his own voice. Also, Paul Frees is awesome in general.
Of course not, because that's John singing. Tom Fogerty was on rhythm guitar.
