I believe the "period" as you say is somewhat irrelevant. Plato wrote/said this and it's still correct, it always was correct, so why should it matter? :P

Yes, I did. I believe it was "Do I contradict myself? / Very well then I contradict myself, / (I am large, I contain multitudes.)" It's from Whitman's "Song of Myself" (section 51, lines 6-8).
