LOL sorry, I'll try to keep them shorter. :D
That wasn't at all a rebuke.
Allow me to inform you ajoe that I am fully capable of using my voice in the most unmotonous ways such as yelling at dogs while in a foul temper, or was that a child, it's so hard to tell the difference between the two.
Oh, well, it's kind of hard to tell when we're not face-to-face :p (something to hate about communicating via writing only)
Why do people in this forum have a tendency to go off-topic? One thread with a subject of one thing can go on discussing something else!
I thought this was the "go off topic" thread? (It's called "random thoughts," after all.)
Random thought: Why do you always have to run to catch the ice cream man? Is he not paying attention? Is it part of the experience? Being older than 10 I'd rather calmly approach the truck and order my ice cream, maybe I'm supposed to go to the store now to get it, but there's little amusment in that approach to quench my sweettooth.
It's our primal tendency to hunt for food. It's an accomplishment to run down prey (in this case ice cream) on the street rather than go into the store and see shelves lined with "prey" ...
Nah, it's because ice cream man is a menial, hot, part-time summer job and he gets paid whether he stops or not. He'd prefer not to have to deal with swarms of children trying to make up their mind and shouting at him all at once.
lol, yeah this is the Random Thoughts thread, but we also go off topic elsewhere (such as at Koa's 1000th post) :D :D
Are English-speaking people that egocentrical that they feel they need to capitalize "I"?
I've been spending way too much time here. WHy??!?
You have been sucked into the vortex of time wasting.
Hmm... but I registered much, much earlier than you did and yet you have more posts than me...
Oh, the 2004 members here are craaaaazy posters. Don't even try to match us. :p We're a new race of cyborg-like posting machines.
I just learned that "rule of thumb" came from the Patriarchal idea that a husband could lawfully beat his wife so long as what he used was no wider than his thumb.
I was wondering, where did "stiff upper lip" come from?
Yeah I knew about the rule of thumb. I think that used to be part of American law too, until the 19th c. or something.
It means you look serious; your lip isn't bent in a smile or a frown. I believe.
Oh! That makes sense. I've always heard it used to describe a degree of toughness. I thought fighters had to keep their lips stiff for some reason! :p (obviously I'm not a fighter.)
This may seem like a stupid question, but is everybody here literature majors or doing something in that field?
That's a good question. I'm gonna go for visual art of some kind, but if the school had majors/minors, I'd say I'm minoring in literature. I find it to be more interesting, but art just happens to come most easily. Even if I'm uninspired I can pick something from life. Not many people would pay just to read a description of a street scene or something.
I am majoring in Greek and Roman Studies, an oh so useful major when applied to job searching after graduation.
Wow, when did I become a Bibliophile instead of a Book Worm?
historically.... who were the death heads brigaide??? I keep on hearing about these guys in computer games set in WWII... but never learned about them on hist. channel or in class. Does anyone know?
ajoe -- when you hit 200. You can make up a status now. :D
Fool, I'll ask my dad. He plays an MMO WWII game all the time. And he's also ammassed a formidable amount of knowledge on Nazi Germany, so he may have heard of them in that context.
Great. Look at me, I'm FOB of the board! (And darn proud of it!)
FOB? whats that?
hehe... go to www.urbandictionary.com
It defines all the slangs you need to know!
why does the northern hemisphere face up? just 'cause of the mapmakers/explorers from back when? maybe the earth is sideways, and the poles are really east/west. why isn't the earth "upside down" from the viewpoint of people "below" the equator, or why isn't antarctica "north" for them????
European settlers. And northerly-oriented astronauts.
Hurray, ajoe! I've been looking for a slang dictionary for so long.
my head's spinning :D :D is yours?
my point is there's no direction to space. it's so weird to hear of "buying a star" for mom as a mother's day gift :p and assigning up/down/sideways directions to a spinning thing in the universe.
thats something I always wondered. I think it has something to do with how narrow the continents get to the south... looks like thin legs big upper body or something... and i found out what fob meant for the record
we have almost as many members as threads
We should start PMing the heck out of the people who have never posted.
what good would it do? unless of course they have the setting that sends them an email for every pm
I just like thinking of them getting bored and returning to the site in a few months to find their message box full of strange comments.
That's a good idea! (Wow, we really should get a life!)
That would be a nice change, to have a life. I could go to the alps and herd goats like I've always wanted and make goat cheese and live in a cave and when I run out of wood in the winter and it's a choice of freezing or burning the complete works of shakespeare I will have to make a real life decision.
A new thought: People who invented pop-ups deserve to die!!!
An old thought: yes, yes, yes.
