download it first then try to open it. It could be some security software on your system is preventing IE from interfacing with MS WORD because of the possibility of MS Word documents containing macro viruses.

Nope, still no success. I guess I will have to browse it through my brother's computer. or I will try to figure out the problem later. (now I am really really curious what's preventing them from opening) Thanks anyway.
