Some kids either drop in for help with their homework or hang around to chat - nothing wrong with that. It's good to see them on a site like this. But on the Personal Poetry and Short Story threads there is a brilliant mix of ancient and ultra-mod. So by all means jump in when you're ready.

Well hello everyone. Thought I'd tell everyone a little about myself so we aren't complete strangers. I go by April, I'm a sophmore in high school for the 2010-2011 school year, I like reading realistic, modern fiction, I write poetry (i'll probably post some) and I'm writting what is turning out to be a novel. For now it's called love isn't and I've posted it in general writting. Reading and writting is a great way for me to vent so I look forward o reading some of all of yours and hope you will do the same for me(:

Excited to be here and looking forward to some stimulating conversations. I have a passion for literature and poetry, mostly of the Romance variety from Spenser to JG Ballard and John Crowley, but am always open to exploring new avenues.
I'm really stoked to have found this place. I've only recently begun writing again after a four year military hiatus. I've been going through some of my old notebooks from high school and remembering just how serene and peaceful I used to feel after writing something. I've often dreamed of finding a place like this where fellow writers could review each others' works. And after reading a few posts and the wonderful feedback people have given I think I may have just died and gone to heaven. I am really looking forward to getting some interesting feedback on some of my pieces. Perhaps I will finally gain the insight I need. I'll be posting something soon and I can't wait! Thanks for having me.
I found this site while googling something and 'bam!' it took me here...so I joined about five minutes ago and here I is.
I am a retired Engineer {Senior Field Eng./CNN} and a tardy writer. Retirement is too much fun for me to slow down but I am an avid reader and am on a few sites such as this one. Thinking and learning keeps one young.
I absorb books like Bounty Towels, from most arenas of the publishing world, preferring Nonfiction, Bios, Gnostic writings and great books by great writers and count several known writers amongst my friends.
I am reading a good one now written by someone I met years ago in Ethiopia...'Underworld' by Graham Hancock. He had just finished 'The Sign and the Seal when we met and spent a week together. Awesome guy.
I am a Hermetic Gnostic but I don't let that stop me from most anything I set my mind to {haha, that's cause Hermeticism teaches that one can do anything and it's most true}
I have lived and worked in over forty countries yet am still missing two continents {Antartica and...Australia, of all places to have never gone}
Born near the crossroads {Clarksdale, Miss'ah-sippi}, my early life gave me a good grounding for the hardships of the world and the seeking of Knowledge {Gnosis}. So I got outta there as soon as possible.
I now live alone near Atlanta, Ga. and if I'm not here I'm on my Harley.
Hope I read some stimulating ideas here, I know I will. I usually spend a lot of time sojourning through the posts before I get myself involved so I will be reading all the posts that prick my little ears before making any comments. {unless I read one that I just have to say something about.}

I'm currently reading Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel, Confessions of an English Opium Eater by Thomas de Quincey, Moby Dick by Herman Melville and The Naked and the Dead by Norman Mailer.
I haven't written anything in a while but I'd like to start again.

Regarding my user name, I am not French. I was to be named this after my great-grandfather until my cousin was named 'John' a month before I was born. Oh well, I use it for my nom de web. I found the postings here very informative. I was looking up "Gods of the copybook heading," which is a Kipling poem quoted in a recent book. The posts answered my questions and were intertaining also. (My only question is, where is the spell checker? I really need spell checking.)
