Wandering in the mist
In memory of Francois Villon
Here am I
tottering about aimlessly,
enveloped in the cold mist
of the night,
a bottle in the hand
a bottle in the head.
I am all alone
no old acquaintance
crosses my path.
Suddenly out of the mist
crafted by ancient artisans,
a portico rises in front of me
in all its majesty.
Where will it lead me?

Waltzing stars
A comet dancing
before her stunned gaze,
wriggling in loops and lozenges,
covered with winking stars
shining wheels
criss crossed the sky,
"Lucy in the sky with diamonds".
She woke up sweating
from her agitated sleep.
Outside the sky was calm.
Among the the nighty clouds
one star blinked in lonely majesty.

re: Faust. Yes, I like Faust I. Will look for a translation of the complete play. It's not a long read and it's mostly in verse.
re: About "lace", It was meant to be a humorous comment not a criticism, but the grinning emoji :D didn't appear. I'm always amused by your alternative solutions so donīt worry.

Old Sac
walking the Old Sacramento river waterfront
located just west of where rhyme and reason
holds no sway with an inland elevation the length
of 18 cats (minus their furry tails of course) -
the nighttime air is seasoned with the musings
of kenspeckled tourists longing for something
novel while poking through imaginative shops,
and restaurants, hoping for a souvenir or two

a white rhododendron
a white rhododendron
graces my garden entrance
obtained by monks anciently
and planted in the dead of night
unawares to me -
draw back the curtains of time
when bliss was
punting on a sylvan lake
gathering water lilies
at dusk with my beloved -
after centuries she wearied
of the paradise we had made
and sought to converse with man
and was lost -
my grief was inconsolable
my wrath barely held in check
when word came to me of her demise
- and so the white flower of
the rhododendron serves
both as a warning to others
and a reminder of my beloved
lost to the end of time
