Dr. Pepper
Peanuts and Orange juice... probably not the best combo....
Just back from a great Thai restaurant with excellent service and marvellous food in the small portions that I prefer. Very pretty waitresses in traditional dress and a civilised clientele.
Having spent some time in conversation I only had a bottled beer but am now making up for it with a bottle of Languedoc red and some snacks.
Sounds great, I can imagine that you'd be too distracted by the waitresses to drink much, not the conversation.
Having a night off after two fairly heavy days with the German beers. Just having a three or four of those little french lager/beers that don't count for anything. Back with the German beers tomorrow night though. Tennis tomorrow morning.
Oh yesterday I had a little surprise to see David Blunkett down the pub, in one of my real ale haunts - some little thing going off. There was a buffet set up but for the life of me I couldn't get my brother to "borrow" some of the food.
Well it shouldn't have been too much of a surprise as MPs, with the possible exception of the late Sir Cyril Black who was head of the Temperance League, are known for their bibulous ways. Charles Kennedy, former leader of the Liberal Party and well known boozer used to drink in The Cardinal close to where I worked in Westminster City Hall and the late George Brown was an all-too-frequent habitué of the nearby Two Chairmen. One of the barmen in The Prince Albert near parliament once told me that he refused entry to Michael Foote on the grounds that dogs were not allowed in the bar. There used to be as many as six bars in the Palace of Westminster but since Blair introduced a more standard working day and axed all-night sittings, most of them have closed down; which is probably just as well because some MPs are said to have rarely paid for their drinks and habitually put it on the slate.
Right now I'm drinking Soave and eating Walker's Prawn Cocktail crisps.
You've never had it so good.
I love buffets, especially in winter.
aside quietly...you can wear parkas with big pockets!
Hold on Emil...let me get my pad out..."bibulous". Ah, there we go.
For me, two broiled pork chops and two glasses of chilled Chardonnay.
.
pistachios
Peanut butter sandwich and a coke
Labatt Blue and Cheese and Crackers

Nuts and a V8 (low sodium)
Whilst engaged in my bête noire of shopping today, I popped into a Wetherspoons for a couple of well earned beers (the things one does to avoid pop music) and placing myself strategically at one end of the bar, I was in pole position on Nesbit watch. Wetherspoons has become the repository of English grotesque, with enormous bellies and those weird American shorts ( do they have a name?) that emerge in what passes for the English summer, and while we can forgive the absurdities of a youthful USA, there can be no excuse for old England's less than finest for being a blot on the landscape.
There was even a female Nesbit (Nesbette?) in attendance and we can but hope that it isn't the beginning of a trend.
One young man who came into the bar was wearing a very smart suit and dark blue tie and looking the antithesis of a Nesbit until he ordered a pint of Fosters and the whole persona crumbled to dust.
So apart from a lack of pointless pop music, Wetherspoons affords an ideal opportunity to witness the UK's ongoing decline.
I'm currently drinking a French chateau bottled red following a meal of grilled Quorn steak with mushrooms.
Love the Nesbit spotting- it is a hobby my brother and I often partake of. I haven't been in a Witheredspoon pub for a while though, thank god, but granted the lack of music pollution is a bonus. We just stick to good ale pubs, less Nesbits and no/acceptable music. The problem is they are everywhere for us so nesbit avoidance is often the key.
Some of the female Nesbits often wear earrings the size of car tyres, look out for that as it will aid you in long distance spots. (I'm afraid that female Nesbits are already here - just re-watch the video clips of Sir Jeremy Kyle if you don't believe me....ouch.)
Currently finishing off a "Biere unSpeciale" as I am not really drinking at the moment. This is because I am off to Northern Ireland Thursday-Sunday (so my usual nonsense postings will not be available in this period) and I want to save it all for then. I'm also still playing regular tennis and want to keep in good shape...ish.
I must say that I am a little worried by the trouble in Belfast as that is where we are touching down, before heading further north, but I'll probably sleep through it as the flight is 7.00am, meaning a 3.30am get up - what utter vile hours, unbelievable.:cuss: If I don't get good sleep I am extremely grumpy indeed. Here's to a grumpy wedding experience.:cheers2::cuss:
