hello, everyone, nice to see you here, this is virginia, a newbie for this forum, also for literature. I like reading, but english is not my first language, so it's difficult for me to understand it well. So at present, i just read some fictions which have Chinese version and i've read it before, it could help me understand the English version. I like Jane Austin's work Pride and Prejudice, I was attracted by her languange, so beatiful, elegant and charming. but my favorite book is Gone with the wind, i was admired Scarlett
deeply. Never give up, everything will past and life will go on.

Hello, my name is Shari and I found your site because I have for many years now been on a search for a certain poem that I just can't seem to find anywhere. My Father-in-law recited it to me on his death bed; it was the last words he spoke. It was amazing; he recited this whole long poem from memory when he was literally an hour or so from death. The power poetry has over our souls struck me yet again in my life. My Grandmother recited the Village Black Smith at her last. But Pop's poem I had never heard before which in itself was unusual I was teethed on poetry. I'm hoping someone here can help me identify it; all that I have is the first line. "I dream of a house, with a red top roof, and roses around the door, and a canary to sing in the sunlight, and a golden haired child on the floor".
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and it is a pleasure to meet you even if my search is not fulfilled here I like the site and will visit often.

Hello!
I am a high school student. I am currently reading "The resteraunt at the End of the Universe." Pretty good read, actually... My favorite character so far is Marvin. He's a lot like me. I love reading and writing my own stories and someday I hope my random ideas will get published. I also like drawing and Video Games, Especially (can u tell?) Ratchet And Clank. Oh, and my favorite animal is the wolf (Sorry virgil!)

Hello!
My name is Irina. The purpose of being here is to develop my literary knowledge and of course meet new intersting people.
I'm a high school student, and I'm currently applying to University. English is not my first language, my mother tongue is Russian.
I adore literature since my early childhood. My favourite book character is Holden Caulfield. I suppose each teenager can find some similarities with him.
One of my biggest passions is writing. I write poems mostly, but I'm going to try to write prose either. It was only a hobby, but now I plan to make it a part of my occupation.
Thank you for your attention.

Hello!
I just stumbled across this site today looking for information about Dante. When I was a child, my mother (who has a Phd in English Literature) had a prose version of Dante's Inferno. I don't know if it was for children or not, but I read it as a child. I have the most beautiful memories of reading that book while munching on animal crackers. I desperately want to find that book, but I don't know who the editor was.
It had beautiful black and white pictures (I remember pictures of Francesca and Paolo in the whirlwind, and whichever sinners have their heads on backwards--I think it was the Sodomites, not that I had any idea what that was at 8 years old!-- in particular), and I read it over and over and now would like to share it with my own child.
Does anyone have the faintest clue as to which book I am referring?
Other than reading Dante, I read just about everything I could get my hands on as a kid. I liked Sci fi, Tolkein, CS Lewis, the Bible, Marx (I had a very progressive group of nuns running my grade school) and biographies. Istill like all those genres, but rarely get to read them now.
So, when I grew up (which was a long time ago) I got a Master's in Divininty, and now...I get paid to be Catholic! (I am a Director of Religious Ed)
Most of my reading now is theologically or scripturally based. Sometimes I read trashy modern novels, which I don't think qualify as literature, but I enjoy them to wind down. I read "Shutter Island" (instead of seeing the movie) and "Wiseguys" last week.

Well, I am currently studying to become an Engineer, but something i want to do before i grow out of my creativity is write a novel. I have some pretty crazy dreams and excursions in my imagination.
I speak awkwardly most of the time because my dad (who is an engineer, and he would talk to me like a coworker)...
I hope to learn, improve my writing style, and enjoy some new short stories from this forum.
