re: Gold Country... cooling - no snow nor freezing weather here yet... maybe snow down to 4000 feet (~1200 m) elevation... we're about half that. Deer thicker than retail thieves; wife nearly hit a full sized bear while driving on our local highway 193... Kitties: Tinker Bell & Rosie doing fine with Rosie spending less time outdoors :)

we've had a fair amount of snow but thankfully not too cold. my neighbors ducks are still eeking out a living on my pond. the lady across the road has started putting food out and I see the daily procession of deer and turkeys. I started feeding the birds on my front porch, which means my homeless cat spritzer is temporarily banned from the outside. ive caught three mice (and need to catch a 4th) in the past week and relocated them to a sheltered place in the woods and left them plenty of food and material to make a nest with.

Hungry bears on the highway must be a danger indeed. But so are the our downtown thieves who stone the car windows to get the cell phones of the drivers.

five to six inches of snow tonight danik---that makes it tougher for the outdoor critters. ive done really good at feeing the birds, but I have a collection of food for other critters that I could do a much better job of putting out.
