Hello all, my name is Maximus and I am simply happy to have found this wonderful forum. I love learning, reading, and hiking. What else does one need in life! I'll keep it short, but I guess everyone posts their favorite book, so i will not be the exception. I know it is probably cliche, but my honest-to-god favorite book is The Grapes of Wrath.

Hi I'm the latest newbie! I used to read a lot and I'd really like to get back into it. This seems like the place to get good ideas on what to read next. Here's to lots of nights snuggling down with a good book! Yay!

Greetings from the currently freezing state of Maine, I'm 30 years old and obviously this is my first post. I've been passively viewing these forums for at least a year but have just now decided to become an active member. Anyway, currently I'm reading For Whom The Bell Tolls (Hemingway), In Cold Blood (Capote) Ivanhoe (Scott), Essay On Man and Other Poems (Pope), The Autobiography & Other Writings (Benjamin Franklin) and what ever else I find intriguing. The last three novels and one novella that I have read are Moby Dick (Melville), Hard Times (Dickens), House of Meetings (Amis) and The Immoralist (Gide) as well as some short stories by Poe, David Sedaris and various other narrative poems and short stories. If I had to pick a favorite author it would probably be Dickens (A Tale of Two Cities, David Copperfield, Hard Times, Great Expectations and Oliver Twist are probably the most engrossing novels I've ever had the pleasure to read). I have Bleak House waiting for me but I want to clear my plate of the other novels I'm reading and read the Dickens when I'm not in the midst of a half dozen or so other novels. I'll finish up this post (before I start rambling) by saying that I look forward to sharing ideas and opinions with others who have the same passion.
Just found the site this PM. Not prepared to wax eloquent or otherwise. It is a wonderful site, however, where I don't expect to be driven crazy by ill-uses of personal possessive pronouns. Furthermore, I am hopeful that all with whom I may have exchanges will agree with my own little aphorism: Keep English Plain and Good, with Good, Plain English. A general perusal of literature links led me to this site and it looks fantastic! I currently reside in the climate utopia of Hawaii and my major hobby, other than hiking tropical trails is, of course, reading. I am an ardent fan of British literature, but read pretty much all classical lit. I am currently about to wade into 'Ulysses' for the second time.
And that, as they say, is that. I look forward to hanging out, etc., etc. :)

I'll start by saying that I'm new here and new at writing, but I will hopefully be able to post a short story soon. I'm really looking forward to honest critiques and healthy discussion, and from what I've read on this forum so far, it looks like I've come to the right place.

Hello everybody (I am yet to virtually meet you)
I registered on this forum because I
a) have been deeply in love with English and American literature
b) am currently studying for my university entrance exams and need as much information and experience as possible
c) rarely find people as keen on literature as I am in the real life
d) am not used to making arguments, discussing etc. and I hope this could help me...
e) hope I could be helpful myself later on
Some of my favourite books, writers etc. include F.M.Dostoyevski, Walt Whitman, the Bloomsbury Group + English Modernism, J.P.Sartre, F. Kafka, Zadie Smith, Edna O'Brien, A. de Saint-Exupéry, E.A.Poe (The Sleeper!), J.Keats and many many others.
But most of all..well, if there's another Virginia Woolf freak, feel free to reply... :p
