I suppose this isn't my normal forum. I am a member of Pokemon forums for the most part. Slightly contradictory don't ya think. ;)
I don't I am of the younger generation, 17 to be exact and one of those freaky people that beleive Video Games and good literature are the two best teaching methods ever created. At least for the mind. Anyway, I read alot. I have a thing against alot of classics yet I do love reading. I do appreciate a good novel however and that is why I am here.
Nice to meet you all.

Hello all-
I've been a member of many writing discussion forums, and though I enjoy them all, I want to branch out and meet some more people.
I began writing my sophomore year of undergrad study. At the time I was seeking a degree in fine arts. For various reasons, I stopped. Then, I fell in with the lit crowd. Since then I've had plenty of stories published. I've studied with some fantastic authors (Peter Rock and Craig Clevenger). And I've been to a couple Association of Writer’s and Writing Programs (AWP) conferences which have allowed me the opportunity to embarrass myself in front of many important people. I'll be going again in April 2010 in Denver. Anyone else?
My first fiction chapbook, called Charactered Pieces, was recently released from OW Press. People seem to really like it. I'm happy.
I'm excited to be here.

Hey, Virgil.
I loved the introduction! Thanks for sharing.
I particularly liked your quote... I woke up this morning with a quote on my mind that is somewhat similiar (I think)... the backdrop is with regard to overcoming trauma in life: learn to be your own hero. It's along the lines of self-preservation.
Anyway... take care,
Dayna

Hi,
I just became a member this evening.
I recently purchased on ebay a leather bound copy of Moby Dick and did a google search to see what people thought of this "classic" that I have never read. I came across this site and forum and decided to join.
I am a former English teacher, but somehow I have missed some of the classics along the way. I intend to read some of the classics of literature, although I am handcuffed by only being fluent in english. I've read most of Shakespeare, although I could certainly see going back and rereading some of those now that I have more experience and perhaps a little wisdom.
I've greatly enjoyed reading many of your posts. It's stimulating conversation, and I intend to learn much here and have some healthy differences of opinion (and some healthy agreement) with many of you.
Now off to update my profile...
