Let's see what is important. I am 24, from Texas, and love reading. I write short stories, usually in the horror vein. My reading range is vast and inclusive of almost all genres. I found this place while looking for a place to have intelligent, informative discussion of a literary nature. It seems I have found it.
Virgil, I have to say I love your signature. Byron is an absolute favorite of mine. I think Lady Caroline Lamb's description of him is very accurate.
See you all around the forums.
Hi all!
I'm from Nr. Nottingham in the UK and I found this forum whilst searching for a literary quote. My favourite genres are classics and crime fiction. I am a really big crime fiction reader and love being introduced to new authors. I also enjoy reading children's literature and have recently got interested in illustrators. I'd like to say that I'm an avid writer, but unfortunately I don't seem to have the 'gift.' I would love to learn and improve, though! I enjoy watching adaptations of novels onto the big screen and discussing how will it worked/didn't work. It invariably seems to be the latter! I would love to get out to the threatre more to see some of my favourite plays performed.
Hope to see you all around the forum!
:-)
..I had initially become interested when I had chanced upon this neighborhood of blogging comrades and chanced upon a discussion forum about Abbadon. Even though many of the theories were imaginative and interesting, the truth about Abbadon is that, in Revalation, the Angel that is Abbadon is a title, not a name, and that title describes Jesus' power given to him at the appointed time that he received the "keys to life and death itself" in which he now posseses the power to oust Satan from heaven and Satan is now limited to the confines of earth, "possesing great anger, knowing he hath but a short period of time". Jesus also has possesion of the power to eventually destroy both Satan and his demons in Armageddon. Abbadon is not a fallen angel, nor a rogue, but is Jesus come to power and possesing great authority given him by his Father, God (Jehovah... Psalms 83:18) Revalation speaks of this angel casting Satan and his demons out of heaven... so how can he be in cahoots with him? Also, all "rogue" angels in defiance of God are called Demons. The title Abaddon is a description of one of the many offices and abilities the Lord acquired when he took his throne. Also, in Ezekiel, you will find that Satan was once a holy, high-ranking covering cherub, who became Satan in the Garden of Eden because he desired the worship of man.
Hello, I am beno. A newbie in many senses. I am an undergrad student in Puerto Rico currently finishing a B.A. in Second Language Acquisition and another in Literature. Much like Virgil (granted not as radical as the engineer/literature combo) I was torn between the practicality of an Education degree as opposed to the joy of a literature degree so i went for both. Ultimately the amalgamation of both degrees should prove helpful in the classroom. I hope. About my background, I was born with a book in one hand and a pencil in the other. Sadly, this left me with my hands full and i had to pass on other things, namely a grasp on reality. Responsibility. I am the type of person that will disappear with a book, a pen and a pad, not to be seen for a few days. Aloof. I love to debate, playing the devil's advocate so often that Im now on retainer. I enjoy people who truly believe in what they say and defend it.Tactfully. Always up for a discussion. Im proud to say that the t.v. that I bought last September (2008) has yet to see a minute of scheduled programming. I nearly had a heart attack last night when i saw a trailer for Where the Wild Things Are. I try to stay away from television, but randomly; at friend's houses i'll catch a peek. Its never good... I do however watch movies and play video games. People have often mocked me for my hypocrisy (no to tv but yes to games and movies) Movies have somehow retained a resemblance to an artform, and every so often a movie comes along that moves me. As far as video games go, I am a huge fan. Video Games are our last chance to get kids back into literature. (i know im going to catch a lot of flack for this comment but im more than willing to explain myself. Just ask... be nice:nod:) Dont get me wrong... take your kid outside ad give him some books THAT YOU HAVE READ and discuss them with him/her all while maintaining an active lifestyle. Eventually, when you come back home, and he/she is done reading, and tired and bored and hungry and antsy and hovering, dont give him/her the tv remote... give them an RPG (thats a role playing video game, not a missile launcher)
wow... its amazing how eratic and verbose I can be...
in any case I look forward to foruming (lol) with you in a more structured manner, perhaps then Ill make a little more sense. No promises though.
hello all! my name is paulina and i stumbled upon this place while searching stuff about shakespeare villains for fun. i live in california and i'm in college studying to become an archaeologist. i like to read a lot of classic literature, especially austen, shakespeare's sonnets, and anything written by neil gaiman. my love of reading started when i read harry potter at the age of 11. i can't wait to learn about more books to read from this forum!
Hello everyone! I'm Michelle and I'm very pleased to have stumbled upon a forum of my interests that appears to be worth it's weight in Zeros and Ones! Let's see... anything about myself worth sharing... I'm 17 years old and have been writing on and off for years. Over time it's become my greatest and most fulfilling passion and I do it nearly all the time. I mainly dabble in novels and short stories, often writing fanfictions of some kind when the dreaded Writer's Block is plaguing me. But I digress, I look forward to my time here on this forum and eagerly anticipate speaking with other literary fans about topics that seem rarely discussed in this day and age. It will be nice getting to speak with a lot of you!
Yo peoples,
Im a high school student currently a few weeks from my end of year exams. I love books, and I want to learn more about them; especially Ancient Greek literature. I AM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS SITE!!!!! It seems to be the exact thing I'm looking for; a site that is for booklovers, by booklovers.:cool::cool:
Hello all,
This looks like a great forum. I'm 38 and work as a head writer for a sketch comedy and rock n' roll club in Columbus Ohio. I'm an avid reader - graduated college as an English major. Can't wait to join in the discussions!
Greetings everybody, I am so happy to be here! My name doesn't matter, I say, because it's pretty ugly, but I am generally called "Cabbage" (>.< ugly surname)
I came here from disappointment from other sites, in desire to find a place where I could find a chance to become a better artist and writer, without changing my profiles all day long!
Personally, I hope you guys won't find me weird or boring, everybody is different on this world.
Anyway, I forgot to tell you more about me.
I come from Constanta, in the south east of Romania, but I do not really like the sunlight (I'M A VAMPIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......................... no way, kidding) and I am 13, studying in 7th grade (here school starts from 6 or 7 years old), and living with my parents. Graduated in boredom; that's what my classmates say about me, but I don't care and act I'm stupid. I am happy-go-lucky but a little introverted, and I WISH I were more independent! Poor wishes! I am bookworm, and love school. My favourite school subjects are maths, physics, English, French, Romanian, biology........ anything but sport :eek2: who the hell invented that?!
I love art and music too, composer: Chopin, band: anything metal/ goth and singer: well, a lot, Mariah Carey, Madonna, and as painters.. marmee! they're so many!!!!!!! You've got to reply though to know my preferences in art and literature!
Thank you for the attention and cheers to you all!
I love the Firefly quote. I miss them!
