Yes well done Spain, they deserved it alright, excellent.
Yes, England for World Cup 2014...erm...qualification.

Congratulations to Kiltedexile, who is the winner of our World Cup Game and, also, congratulations to MarkBastable and Hillwalker, who predicted Spain as the World Cup winner.
I am glad Spain won the Cup; they played better than Holland on the day. However, as far as finals go, it was not an exciting match.
Forlan got the Golden Ball and Thomas Muller, the Golden Boot. What do you think?
This has been one of the most enjoyable tournaments for me. There were so many unexpected results.
I completely forgot to bet yesterday!
Weldone to Spain. Holland were Dirty.
It was, wasn't it? :)
Did not expect so many of our members to be interested in - especially those who are from non-football countries such as the USA and Canada. It made it much more enjoyable.
How is everyone coping with the post-World Cup depression?
Have to wait for two years for the Euro now!
And the octopus retires...
I'm waiting for this one: The Women's Worldcup, next year :)
Good choices! Diego Forlán was the most outstanding player in his team, and Thomas Müller was a big surprise, nobody knew his name before, so the Golden Ball as well as the Golden Boot are well deserved.
I agree with Forlan, he was the only player who seemed to get to grips with that beach ball they used.
Yep, and three cheers for Scher!
:grouphug:
And a big hug for being the best moderator on the internet.
I don't get this business about the ball; I understand its the same ball as that used in the Bundeswhateveritis Pemier League in Germany?
I also noted that there appeared to be very few long kicks in the little I watched.
Was it just an effect of the atmosphere in RSA - the Jo'burg and Pretoria games were obviously at altitude. Were the Durban and Cape Town games any different in ball action?
Has anyone got one of these balls?
I do feel sorry for the Dutch, they were righteously annoyed at being ripped off by an incompetent referee. What the hell was he watching during Holland's free kick? The ball deviated a mile off the German's shoulder and instead of a Dutch corner, we get a Spanish goal.
From an independent perspective, the Spanish probably had a much better party than Holland would've managed anyway, so that made it worth it to a neutral!
Just wait for two years and you'll have to learn RRRRRRRRRRugby!
What? Feel sorry for those thugs? I think they were playing rugby weren't they? No, I certainly don't feel sorry for them seeing as they should have had at least two sent off in the first half, they were a disgrace.Quote:

The ball did some very odd things. Goals from free kicks are usually a feature of the world cup, they were rare this time. The ball sailing high and wide is an abiding image of this tournament.
This may be journalistic nonsense, but..

This thread really added to the interest of the cup for me - it was great scher - and I don't mind losing all my virtual cash... really.
As for post football-less depression, we've got to wait until the 15th August before the premiership starts all over again. Not too long. :smile5:
Maybe we can do this again during the Rugby World Cup (I do not know anything about rugby so it will be quite educational).
Lulim> I am embarrassed to admit that I have never watched women's football.
Paul> I don't follow the league much in this country. Used to back at home but I still do not have a team that I support in the UK.
I am currently watching Linfield play Rosenborg in the second qualifying round of the champions league - year round fitba' gotta love it
Yes, we should do this in the rugby world cup - Come On Scotland!!!!!!!
Scher, you should become a Rangers fan
I was a rugby player as a kid, so I never developed a liking for a particular team in the Premiership. It's the best way to be - just with the desire for different teams to win.
As for doing this thread for the World Cup - that would be great!
Come on Englannnnnnnd!!!!.
If you think England's football team was an embarrasment, wait till you see the Rugby Yawnion team in "action."
Is this the final word on the World cup? An Aquarium in Spain has announced it will pay "any Price" for the German Psychic Octopus. A difficult one this, although the Octopus has recieved death threats in Germany, Spain is the home of the Paella!
I hate that octopus!
