I enjoyed ender's game (and the movie) and speaker for the dead, so much so that I could read the next one.
I have a good collection of crayons, but its been so long since ive colored, I cant remember the last time---id have to guess somewhere in the 4-5 yr range at least. same with coloring with colored pencils.
how many movies on your "to watch" list?
-
I haven't colored in ages :(
Movies: actually most of them... there are so many that I haven't seen that that I still find a gem by accident that I'll watch or re-watch... no real list is used.
How many marbles are in your aquarium ? If none then how many years since you had an aquarium ?
-
i watched a couple of movies recently i can recommend. gods of Egypt and arrival. right now im really enjoying alita, battle angel.
I grew up with an aquarium or two in the house, and even though today I would probably eschew the whole idea of tropical fish catching and breeding, I have fond memories of the whole set-up. gotta be somewhere in the mid 70s, so almost 50yrs---holy cow! we didn't have marbles just gravel, so 0. odd though, i did have a small marble collection.
how many board games and/or toys do you still have from your childhood?
-
gods of Egypt keeps coming up somewhere as a recommendation... may try it out. Enjoyed Arrival's twisted premise and have seen it a number of times... may revisit with fresh eyes.
Childhood "stuff" didn't last the multitudinous madness of moving as a youth, alas. I have a Spirograph-like etching I "created" using a pendulum device at an exhibit at the Seattle World's Fair, circa 1962, as the only artifact of my childhood to survive - other than the obligatory pix of the family and report cards and ilk I inherited upon my Mother's passing 7-years ago.
How many vinyl records do you have... and if more than zero how many have you played recently ?
-
there is some song out there, the title of which is escaping me, that answers the question of would I still date you knowing the pain that waits at the end of our relationship, and the singer (a guy) says yes. I thought the ending of the movie was both painful and beautiful.
alas zero---my parents, and my mother in particular, were great about getting me albums for Christmas and birthdays when I was a kid and I had a pretty good collection, probably ~200 or so. but a long time ago I gave them all away to a friend who has a whoppin' big collection, feeling okay at the time knowing they were going to a place where they would be appreciated. as I write about it now though, I find myself wondering if I have dishonored my parents in the giving them all away...
im on a garage sale and thrift store mission to re-collect many of the board games i had as a kid. some of the toys may be impossible to find via that method, but ive done pretty good with the games.
how many miles or minutes in a "good walk?"
-
For me a good walk is maybe two miles... unfortunately COVID saw me go to seed and I have yet to work up to even half that distance :( Perhaps during Fire season I'll get me legs back in shape.
Of the "57 Channels (And Nothin' On)" how many do you actually watch ?
-
do you still have a bike tailor?
quite a bit actually, although I think im going to be revisiting my tv package sometime soon to see if I can save some money, which will necessitate a more careful look at that very question.
tbs, tnt, fx, fox, fox news, fox business, the history channel, sci-fi, bbc, espn, usa, 3-4 local channels, animal planet (if its still called that), the occasional nat geo, some true crime networks, me tv, the weather channel, comedy network, family network, sometimes axs, and at least 4-5 channels whose names are escaping me---so id guesstimate about 30ish.
how many pounds in a "gone to seed?"
-
∞dles
How many days in your favorite month of the calendar year ?
-
ah tailor, you can tell the actual number---I promise not to post it at your local grocery store!
my favorite time of year might be middle September to middle October, but if I have to pick a calendar month, lets go with September, and 30.
for sure though there is something to be said about finally shedding the cold with july.
how many days until something "big" or "memorable" or anything special that you've been looking forward to?
-
re: "do you still have a bike tailor?" - I do, a blue Schwinn Traveler 10-speed, an artifact from a previous life that hasn't been ridden since 2004... I related in the "song title" thread about my previous one.
hmmm... just had a combined day of days last Saturday (wife's b'day and our anniversary)... looking forward to Thursdays at Two poetry tomorrow (since I'm PDT) - so less than one :)
How many chainsaws do you currently have ? (I have a battery powered 18" one for light duty work... son-in-law does the heavy duty cutting)
-
ah tailor, dust that old girl off and take her for a spin!
getting married on your wife's birthday---that's interesting.
just one chainsaw, although I recently turned down the opportunity to have a small electric one. ive been using an electric circular saw pretty effectively for smaller things. my chainsaw is a crucial part of my life---i cut my own wood for winter heating.
how many days since you were last at your local library?
-
Lol... no spinning anymore, unfortunately... 3-days apart for the two events, celebrated the following Saturday :)
Last Thursday (6)... Thursdays at Two poetry the first and third Thursday of each month :)
How many years since you last went bowling ?
-
not quite the same as having your birthday on Christmas, but close.
my local library is pretty sedate---no poetry stuff going on.
I have a distinct memory of going bowling on an army base in germany in 1985, but I know I have bowled at least once since, I just don't remember where or when. id guesstimate (which the site actually recognizes as a legitimate word, how about that?) somewhere between 8-20ish years.
in the city I grew up in there used to be two very active alleys. my parents belonged to a couples league and tons of other people belonged to that and other leagues as well. one of my fond childhood memories comes from that---the couples league was Friday night. my parents would come home from a fish fry dinner at a local bar, bring me a bag of taco doritos and a can of hi-c or Hawaiian punch and id stay home and watch the brady bunch, the partridge family, the odd couple, room 222 and love American style. in later years a show called Kolchak: the night stalker was on. my parents would come home and my dad would get mad because id have every light in the house on.
now there is only one alley nearby in a struggle establishment, and to my knowledge, no leagues. the other thing that's gone the way of the dinosaur where I live is church and bar league softball (slow pitch and fast pitch respectively), and an outdoor volleyball league.
how long since you have been mini-golfing?
-
Great memories :) Bowling was my life and church for many years in the S.F. Bay Area, California. Later, I played co-ed softball and men's basketball on a company team in the late 80's in Chico, California. I fondly remember the look of terror on our company's president's face when I fielded a ground ball in short right field, wound up and fired with all my might at his glove at first base... OUT! :)
mini-golfing: Oy, another lifetime ago, circa early to mid '80's, prolly near San Jose, California... maybe 40 years or so.
How many times have you visited the zoo since you were a child ?
-
interestingly, over the past few years "taco doritos" have made a little comeback. if they didn't cost like 4 dollars a bag maybe id buy one!
throwing a runner out at first base from right field! way to go tailor!
so time to go on a mini-golfing date?
no visits to the zoo---I wonder how id feel going as an adult. I have a foot in two competing camps as to the rightness/wrongness and goodness/badness when it comes to zoos but I can at least say I enjoy watching episodes of "the zoo" on animal planet.
how many old landline phone numbers do you remember from your pre-cell phone days?
