Don't I know it! I don't think I have ever seen her give a bad performance. She was in the film I watched tonight and she was stellar and so real. The film I had seen before, called "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone" based on the Tennessee Williams novel. I understand there was an earlier version starring Natalie Wood, but I have never seen that one. I guess this is Helen Mirren week for me.

That is "The Importance of Being Earnest" with Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Dame Judi Dench. I like it, but Reese just seems out of place to me.
I guess she did not impress me, so that is why I forgot she was in the film. I love the other actors you named - especially love Dame Judy Dench. I just took out of my library "Ladies in Lavender". I liked it and wanted to watch it again. Dench is good in everything I think.

Yes, BBC did put out the Oscar Wilde set, Janine, and it's not costly like I thought it was. I had to be confused with something else. It's $23.99 and you get: "The Importance of Being Earnest," "The Picture of Dorian Gray," "An Ideal Husband," and "Lady Windermere's Fan." But I won't get them now. Maybe later.
I will have to check it out. I don't own any of those films. That would be just great to own, eventually....another item for my long Wishlist! ;)

I know. LOL I have this huge Wish List, too. LOL Some of the stuff I'll never buy, though.
I keep things there just to refer to them sometimes - to know they are in existence. I had wanted this one Lawrence book and now it is over 100 dollars - may even be 200. It is the last one in the Cambridge series of new biographies - called "The Dying Game". I have to laugh at my futility keeping it in my list. It would be a miracle if it ever came down in price.

I didn't have an engagement ring, either. Not the second time. And I had a very inexpensive wedding band and a very simple ceremony, but it was lovely because of the beautiful weather and the lovely words spoken by the man who married us.
Well, quite honestly, I told my finance I didn't care about an engagement ring. I was a fool, I guess; but I knew we didn't have the money when we were young. Back then in the 70's we were near hippies and it seemed frivolous to me. I still think some are way over-priced. My son spend a near fortune on his wife's huge diamond. He had it made up, also. Her wedding band is quite impressive, too. I don't think I would want to wear something that expensive, not at my age; but hey, to each his own. I have other nice rings I have collected over the years and wear those often. I do want to see photos of yours though; that is quite exciting. My son's ring was designed and is very nice; suits him well. Her two rings are lovely.

These rings are gorgeous, though. I'll have to show you a photo of them when I actually get them. They have to be made. We went to the jewelry store and picked out what we wanted, though. My husband said, "Well, that's the most money I've ever spent on any one thing in my life." (He's never bought a car. Not yet, but he takes his driver's test next week, so maybe soon.)
Best way to do it - have it made up at the jewelers. I can't wait to see it. Sounds gorgeous and you have pretty hands to put it on. Your husband sounds sweet and very caring.

I liked "Where Angels Fear to Tread," Janine, and there's no doubt the cinematography of the Tuscan landscape was gorgeous. Helen Mirren was fantastic in the film, as always. I thought everyone did a good job. And Judy Davis from "A Passage to India" was in it as well. I need to rewatch that one. I'd give it 9/10, maybe 9.5/10. I love all the film adaptations of Forster's books.
I do recall that film because I recall that Helene and Judy or Rupert, go off to try and rescue Helen in Tuscany. Wasn't she their cousin or some relative? I love Judy Davis in a number of films. She is a fine actress.

Could you be thinking of "A Room With a View" and "The Wings of the Dove?" HBC is in both of those.
No, the plot I am thinking of is what I wrote above.

The problem for me with Reese in these British movies is that I see her as the “quintessential American girl” and so for me, she just doesn’t “work” in a British film. I didn’t like her as Becky Sharpe for that reason, though I think she’s a good actress. I prefer her in American comedies, like “Sweet Home Alabama,” thought she did a great job in “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
I agree and I had the same feelings about her in English films. I adored her film when she was just a very young girl - something about the moon, can't recall the name now; I will look it up. I loved her in "Walk the Line" - was she in "Coal Miner's Daughter"? I have only seen an older version of that film, with Cissy Spacak (sp?) Yes, she was good in "Sweet Home Alabama". She was cute in one about a woman who dies and appears to her boyfriend - forget the name of that now, too; it is late. Something with 'Heaven' in it.
I thought of the Helene Boheme Carter film title - one of them "A Merry War" - it is fashioned after Orwell and his wife from Orwell's book, called "Keep the Aspidistra Flying". I got such a kick out of that film - very sweet. The other film stars Paul Betany as her sister's husband whom Helene has an affair with. That is a very interesting and intense film. She plays Dina in the film. I wish I could recall the name. I really liked it.
