I figured out why it accepts 9 characters: it doesn't.
^^^^^ a space between the lines counts as 1.
It frightens me that you spend time finding out how to say the least possible in a post.

as a post, since there were only 9 characters. I said I just realized that the return/enter to begin a new line must count as one character.
