Reading is better than living. Hate to say it, but somehow books just aren't quite so hard and all. There's so much beauty and love and danger that isn't really dangerous in the least, unless you're reading H.P. Lovecraft and are in danger of being sucked into an alternate and very slimy dimension.

But as long as you stay away from that guy, you'll be okay, readingwise. More people get killed in auto accidents than ever hurt themselves reading a book.

I'm delighted to find this forum. I had to go join some forums since my web guy said I had to do that get my site ranked better for search engines. But it turns out that it's a great opportunity. I've looked over some of the postings already and am majorly jazzed to get the idears flowin.

My hobbies are Photoshop and writing and editing and now, apparently, posting in forums online. I'm a fantasy author, but a closet literature freak. Worship Shakespeare and the word he rode in on.

Not so overly fond of modern artistic endeavor, however. It's just too goldurn artistic for me. I take my art straight please, only when it happens accidently, in the pursuit of communication.

I just realized I never *formally* introduced myself here. Hello, my name is Jacob (obviously), I am a high school student from Ontario, Canada. Reading, video games, listening to music and writing are my main hobbies. I'm a sedentary person as you can tell. I snowboard in the winter, but that's about it.

I've always been eager to hone my craft of writing and learn about literature. I came to this site to do those two things. I don't really learn much about literature in school, or as much as I'd like. Not to sound like some sort of elitist, but the public education system is so dumbed down that it is not about learning anything anymore. The ideals of liberal education are absent from the public schools. "Teacher gives sheet, student completes sheet, student hands in" is the mentality. So I do most of my learning on my own, and hopefully I can from this site.

I'd like to be a writer someday, or perhaps an English professor. I want to devote my life to reading and writing, and as long as I have enough finances to just get by I will be happy. I'm probably going to major in either English or journalism in university. I like this thread, because it's the only time I can get away with talking about myself and not alienate other people. Unless I already have. Well, if you're still reading this, I probably haven't alienated you. And if you stopped reading, then we'll never know then, shall we. Anyways, that's all.

Hello there, everyone. I'm a quiet girl from northern England and stumbled upon this site quite by accident while doing research for Eng Lit homework. Pretty soon, research was forgotten and I was lost in the forums.

My two great loves are literature and music, and when not playing viola, I'm probably reading. I'll read just about anything, really, though I draw the line at the more obscure, experimental modern books. I love Jane Austen and Persuasion is my favourite, though it's closely followed by the Lord of the Rings trilogy, hence the picture. I'm also a bit of a Shakespeare obsessive, hence the name. Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and Henry V are a few particular favourites. The soundtrack to my life is mostly classical, particularly Beethoven and Elgar, and just about anything by Bach is great fun to play.

I'll avoid mentioning anything from the "real world", as my love of literature is mostly for the sake of escapism. What better than forgetting about coursework deadlines and rubbish weather for a few hours with a good book?

I'd love to be an author one day, though if that doesn't work out, a career in academia doing something English-related sounds good. Thanks for reading.:rolleyes:

I currently have no favorite book, for I love all books that I finish. As for favorite authors, well I'm at a loss for one as well. As for a brief summary on my personality, let's just say that I'm complicated, and not too keen on talking about myself, but love finding out about others.

Hi all.

This is my first post to say Hi. I am from England and currently studying for a degree in English Literature, so you will probally see me here a lot. Judging by the age poll, I fall into the older category and so can be classed as a "mature student." (That only applies to my age) A few years ago I decided a change in career was in order and became a teacher. I currently teach English language whilst at the samee time am in my second year at Uni, as I want to expand my teaching capacity. Apart from reading my biggest passion is keeping fish. I have a salt water tank, a tropical tank, a goldfish tank and a Koi pond. Due to mine and my wife's strange nature we shunned the option of living in a house and bought a boat, which we live on in central London.
