I used to live even closer to the fault systems than I do now. I remember having to go outside from a calculus class due to an earthquake in Santa Clara during my tech training days; I could see a nearby field rippling as with waves: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_M...ill_earthquake from the Calaveras Fault - near to the San Andreas Fault. I lived in Chico, CA when the Loma Prietta quake hit near my old neighborhoods... never even felt it.
