It has a biography of the author and answers lots of questions readers have about the original book like where the "real" secret garden is located, what "doughcakes" and "oatcakes" that Mary, Colin, & Dickon enjoyed in their secret garden are and how to make them, the difference between an English robin and an American robin and some things to make to attract robins to your garden, how to make your own jump-rope like Mary's and some English rhymes to go with it, and lots more crafts and activities based on the book! It even has a glossary of Yorkshire terms (like "graidely" and "moithered") to explain how to pronounce them and what they mean. Beautiful illustrations, too. <br>

This book was alright--but I saw the movie before I read it--and it made it kinda boring cuz I knew what was gonna happen and my teacher was making me read it. I liked the Yorkshire accent. But the book still isnt that great.

I read this book a long time ago, and whilst i can't remember the details of the story, the deep sense of grief and sadness that pervades this makes me think that this an chillingly important book to read.....<br><br>I especially likes the bit what he aksks for "more".

the secret garden was a wonderful book and my whole family liked it.

this is a wonderful book in which three children share a delight in watching nature in all its magic, the joy they share in the growth of the plants is mirrored in the increasing strength of the once ailing children. The images of nature that the reader is allowed to encounter through the eyes of the children evokes sentiments of almost pantheistic heights.

How dare you say you hate the Yorkshire dialect? That is so rude of you to say. I don't care if you didn't enjoy it, that is an integral part of an entire people's cultural heritage that you are putting down. Rude rude rude . . . If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Geez.<br><br>I love this book, including the Yorkshire dialect it contains (in fact my favorite part), and I would recommend it to anyone. It is such a beautiful story, I can't really understand why anyone would not just love it. I can only think that if you don't love it, you didn't understand it, and that is a great pity.

I thought that The Secret Garden was a pretty good book. The beginning was a little slow at first, but once you got into it, you couldn't stop reading. My favorite character would have to be Dickon. I loved the way he could charm animals and he just sounded like a really cool person to be friends with. But I have a question. What do you think ever happened to Colin in the future? Did he become successful or did he just stay with Mary in the garden for all of his life. I thought that the ending was really good. I always thought that Mr. Craven would be VERY mad with Mary, Colin, and Dickon, but it all turned out the way I wanted it to. Secret Garden was a good book...I'd definitely read it if I was you!

WOW.... I cant say anything better than that this book was sensational! It took me away into another world. A world full of wonder and imagination. I could almost feel and smell the beautiful trees and colorful flowers. Oh, how I would love to take a walk through that garden, forget about everything and just relax by the nice sound of the robin and his friends. Wouldn't that be nice now. overall I would never get tired of this book, and of course I'll read it again.

I think that Mary is really a poor thing... and her ayah shouldn't pamper her so much!!! It's amazing, great, but very sad...

While reading the secret garden, I found it intersting. I didnt care for the book at the beginning because there wasn't really anything happening. At the beginning though Mr. Craven is mean to his son Colin. Although at the end it turns out to be a great book! Mr. Craven comes home from his long trip in Europe he meets Colin in the secret garden. While Mr. Craven was gone Colin became better and learned how to walk. I like the part when Mr. Craven comes home and Colinruns to his dad and gives him a big hug!

After reading the book the Secret Garden I have formed an opinion of the writing style and detail in the book, which does not include the actual story, and I have formed an opinion of he actual story. The writing style and detail in which the book describes characters was actually not bad. The author took the whole book to characterize some people. As for my critique of the story, however I did not like it. It was more appealing to girls and even some girls thought it was too girly! Having been written in 1911 makes up for it and because I like the extensive amount of detail.

I did not like this book The Secret Garden because it did not have enough action and excitement like when they just worked in the garden day after day. I also did not like how it took so long for everybody to change attitudes and then all of a sudden Mr. Craven just changed so quickly. I also did not like the ending because I think it left you hanging. I think their could have been another chapter on the end to say what Mr. Craven and Colin did together as father and son and how their relationship changed.

I really liked the book. I thought this book was interesting in some parts. I liked it espeically at the end when they had a family reunion. I think the most interesting part was when they actully find the secret garden. I really did enjoy the book, sometimes there were magical parts and others mysterious. If I enjoyed the book I hope you will too. You will like this book if you like to garden, grow things, and like mysteries.

I believe this book is a truly fantastic piece of literature. Although part of this book was a little slow, because Mary does not show any enthausiasm in the begining of the book, but the action picks up in the latter part of the book. I think the book was exciting because the secret of the garden kept me on my toes all through out the book. How people can change from such sour, mean faces to a light face when something joyful has swept over them. Embracing spots of magic wipes the dread of death away and makes them stand up straight. A person who could talk and understand animals as clearly we do each other. I think the book was exciting from the author to the reader.

I think that this book was pretty good. It was a little boring at times but for the most part it kept me interested. I think that Mary was a very good character, I loved how she changed from a little brat to someone who cared about life and had feelings because of the secret garden. This book will still be a classic for many for many years to come.

I liked the secret garden because it was a good book and it had a nice ending. I also did not like it because I though it was to girly. I also thought it did not have enough action in it. I can forgive it because it was writen in 1911. I will give the book three stars out of five after all.

I liked the book but it didn't have a lot of action in it. Mostly it was about gardens,(I don't care for.) But the waiting of what was comming next was very exciting. Because you didn't know what was comming next. It could have been more full of action in it. I would have really liked it more if it was a war. It also was full of magic. Like when Colin was in the garden and he stood up, and he could walk. The ends of the chapters were most exciting, because you would not know what was comming next, so you have to read on and on untill you finish the book.

I thought it was a little dark and dreary, but there were some happy times. I did like the ending when Colin and his father had a wonderful reunion. The story was interesting on how the book was about Mary, the about Dickon, and then about Colin. When Mary found the key to the garden and then when she found the garden itself it was very mysterious, but since the book was mostly gardens the story seemed a little light and desperate. I didn't like how everyone in the story was unhappy. The animals and the idea of magic livened the book up, which was a good thing, but overall I wasn't impressed. It could have more excitment to it.

This was a great story, like the part when Mary finds a key to a secret garden and after that a mysterious breeze shows her the door to the secret garden. Although this was a good part in the story, there is a better part. And that is the part in the book that Mary goes to her cousins house and they make fun of her and thereafter the author used that same annoying joke throughout the story but split and I think that that is great because it shows that the author read the book as well as the reader.

I think ths book was ok. I liked it in some parts when Mary first went in the Secret Garden or when she found the hidden corridor behind the tapestry. I mean those parts were exciting but some weren't. One of the parts I didn't like was when they just working in the garden. Or when the robin though they were very different. Those parts of the book were ok but not very exciting. I like books that keep you on edge like a mystery. In the first 298 pages of the secret garden you solve the mystery in like the first hundred. The sectret gerden was a very cool book. I admit that the begining was very slow but it got even more interesting when I got to the middle of the book. I have never seen the movie though. I really want to though. It was exciting when Mary was looking for the key and then the door. I loved the robin that showed Mary where the key and the door was. I think that the spirt of Mr. Craven's wife Lilias was inside the robin showing Mary to her garden so that it could be restored and alive again. She was also in the garden and I think she was the magic that helped Colin stand up, walk and get well again. The only thing that I didn' t like was the end. It should have more to it to make it osund better. I think this book is very cool because of the secret garden and the robin. <br>

At the beginning of this book it seemed boring, and I was sure that I absolutely hated it. The book was required for my class so I had to read on. As the book continued I was slowly entranced by the majic that started to happen. Before I knew it I liked the book so much, I dreaded putting it down. There are adventures everywhere, secrets being told, and it's just very exciting! I loved this book and I would highly recommend it to anyone. No matter what age you are it's a majical book, and I enjoyed it very much!

This is one of my favorite childhood memories! When I was very small, my neighbor (who was nearly 100 years old when I met her) would read this book to me for hours on end. She gave me "our" copy of this magical story for my seventh birthday, and it has become one of my favorite stories and most cherished posessions. I feel that this story was one of the biggest influences on one of my favorite hobbies now as an adult - writing. To anyone with children or grandchildren, read them this book. It will certainly teach them a wonderful lesson and give them great memories to look back on when they are adults. If I could go back in time, I would go back to one of those laid-back afternoons at Mrs. Billings house and listen to her sweet voice read this sweet story to me.

When I read the book, I was shocked. It was so inspiring how Mary made Collin better, much better. I haven't yet seen the movie yet, but boy do I want to. I inspire everyone who reads this to read the book. It's great. You'll really love it.<br>

I first saw the movie The Secret Garden when I was little but I am just now reading the book. I think that there are very big differences and similarities. I think my favorite character is Dicken because of his love for animals and his talent. I found it hard to read the yorkshire sometimes but I got used to it. I am doing a report on this story for school and why it deserves to be a classic I think you know! This book will always be one of my favorites!

this book was kinda weird cause it is highly unlikely that anything like this could ever happen. it was simple, yet hard to understand because of the way some of the people talked. i think the author could have refined it a bit to make it better.

This book is a very good stepping ground for encouraging children to read. It is romantic, magical and wonderfully mish-mashed into one of the greatest books I've ever read. It doesn't get boring no matter how many times you read it. It only gets better!! Ms. Burnett is a great author. I've also read The Little Princess and it was brilliant as well. She knows how to touch children of all ages with her vivid descriptions of not only the physical surroundings of the setting but also of the aura of the plot. She is amazing!!! i read this book two years ago. In the beginning, i did'nt like it because of the girl mary,. Frankly, i hated her character. however, as i read and read, i began to like it. From this book, i learned that only you dare to have a try, all may have a chance to come true, just as LiNing said:'everything is possible. clinon could recover and lived a normal life; Mary became helpful; the family lived together. So now, once i happen to failure, difficulty and unhappy thing, i won't loose heart. I will catch one percent chance with 99 percent adventure. i believe will be OK!

i totally LOVE this book. it's one of my favorites and i recommend that everybody reads it if they haven't yet. and it's a fantastic movie. burnett is a very fantastic author that will remain one of the best for centuries to come and i'll will never forget how wonderful it feels to read her books.
