But it sounds like you're applying a stereotype about old people to that particular scenario (even if it statistically true that old people are disproportionately lonelier). Many old people live with dementia - does this mean we should congratulate those old people who can remember their relatives' names? The majority of elderly couples have been through so much, and they have stuck together through each experience! They have a lifetime of memories, many of which they share. Spending time with my own boyfriend also fills me with satisfaction. Making him smile, supporting him through difficult times and sharing new experiences with him. I love making others happy. This goes for my friends and family too. I adore talking to them about in depth topics. I can and do talk to my closest friends about the things which trouble me and I offer support to them when their lives trouble them. Supporting one another is incredibly satisfying.
I also gain satisfaction from work and working hard. Most of my experiences so far have been in school and at University; each year, I have worked harder and this has led to better results. I would rather gain good results through hard work instead of through luck! Last year, I trained to be a teacher, which was incredibly challenging but, again, extremely rewarding. I couldn't imagine a life without work. Work makes each day feel worthwhile - the days off too! Days off are put to better use when you work; when every day is a day off, it can be disheartening and motivating yourself to do something can be difficult. (P.S. teachers' holidays are time away from the classroom; I am going to spend 3 weeks planning my lessons for the first half term over summer! ;) That's not a bad thing - I couldn't spend 6 weeks doing nothing!)
My satisfaction comes from the pieces of affection I can find in new friends and lovers. The very few bites of love I can get out of it all. It's those pieces, and the want for those pieces that stop me from pulling the trigger... But then, I guess I'm never truly satisfied, am I?
I think "Self satisfaction" is the key to get satisfied. Human beings want everything in their life. They want more and more even they have get their desired stuff. I enjoy in my own world. That's satisfaction for me!
A true friend or someone I can rely on or partner with to share something I deeply believe in or someone I can turn to or talk to when I really want when swayed by a spurt of emotion or joy or pain.
Satisfaction is something we feel in the brains and it is more of a psychological issue and less of the bodily one.
I find that my newfound ability to create something daily through my writing (poems specifically) gives me a sense of accomplishment I doubt I would even find from work.
So does literature make all other satisfactions seem like "breakfast", and take away the need for them?Quote:

My personal satisfactions are when I write for my research project, when I read and when I publish.
Creativity, purpose, personal connection, love, something to look forward to and something(s) to be passionate about. (and heineken beers on Friday - today!)
