Or Tim's Freedom? Tim's Saor / Saoirse?
Or how about General Chat after the forum section you mostly frequented?:p
a fickle lady who's potentially dangerous but not so dangerous as to tempt fate?
and with a bouble thingy entendre, too?
how about the two-tailed chameleon? or Aspiring Submarine? (but then that's tempting fate again)
You ought to name her after one of the men-o-war from the age of sail. She is big enough all right.
Although I think Niamh hit home with General Chat, and you should really go with that.
How about Mal de Mer? :p
Bearly There
Priscilla
Back in action
Hornblower - probably cliche...
I was going to say if it's little, give it a mean name. But if it's big that works, too. :p I named my sabot after a river in HELL.
I almost my boat the Charlotte Corday, also a menacing name, so if you're into history, that's a recommendation. :D
No, really. Give it a mean name. :D :D :D
Well Oiled
Spanky
Just some ideas...
Urania- the muse of astronomy so the stars may always guide you home
Lachesis- after the fate who determines the path and length of your life (I think this is my personal favorite;))
finally I have the nereid (water nymph) Thetis who was the mother of Achilles. I'm pretty big on the names from Greek mythology, and I hope this helps you choose a name. Good luck to you.
Bottoms Up
Tim's Alaskan Grace
(your name, nod to 'home' port, and female name)
Pangaea
Panthalassa Grace
Panthalassa Queen
Finisterre (latin for "end of earth")
Atlantis is a nice name
but it may sound a bit odd (since Atlantis sunk eventually)
EDIT
I also like Tiamat the sea-godess of the Babylonians
Leading candidates so far:
(in no particular order)
Saoirse - Still need a pronunciation for this one
General Chat - I like this a lot. It'll remind me of all my friends here, and General has the alternate interpretation of high command.
Lachesis - Female name.... a polite nod to fate rather than something tempting it.... a very good name.
Bottoms Up - I really like the double meanings of drinking and gay sex (two of my favorite activities and hopefully two things that will happen A LOT on this new boat); but the third possible meaning troubles me...... capsizing!
Panthalassa - How have I never heard this word before today?? I know of Pangea; but never considered that the enormous globe covering sea from the same era had a name. And a beautiful name that rolls off of the tongue nicely, at that!
Finisterre - I love this one! Very appropriate since I intend to see every bit of the globe on this boat. It's also reminiscent of the warning that was placed on the open ocean on early maps from the time before most of the world was charted - "Here there be Monsters"
You missed mine from a few posts back, Bib. How about Sojourn?
Sorry, Virg, but I didn't miss it.... I rejected it because;
1) It's a really common boat name.... I know of at least 3
[so·journ:
–noun :a temporary stay: during his sojourn in Paris.
–verb (used without object): to stay for a time in a place; live temporarily]
2) I don't like the temporary nature of it.... If I were going to live somewhere and vacation on the boat, then it would be perfect; but I plan to live on this boat and hopefully die there as well (not anytime soon, mind you, but at a ripe old age many many years from now).
Another excellent suggestion that I've rejected is Scheherazade's "Mal de Mer". This fell by the wayside because "Mal de Mer Man" was the name of my primary fishing boat and because I no longer suffer from Mal de Mer (sea-sickness). But I did give serious consideration to "Mal de Mer No More".
