Perhaps the accent? People in my home town have a very special way of talking. A bit nasal sound. It´s ugly.

*Answer to subterranean: because there are parts of the world where the left hand was used to wipe the bum (also why it's a terrible thing to lose that particular one as punishment) and so was only polite to shake with the right.
*Re: garlic - it's irresistible. Once had 25 cloves browned in olive oil. Such a yummy, yummy snack. :D

Hardy stopped writing novels, because of the criticism he received for Jude the Obscure, and went on to live for another 20 years or so. Tolstoy stopped writing novels, because he could no longer see the worth of writing fiction. I wish Hardy had continued novel-writing, he had plenty of time ahead of him to do so. Which novelist would you have liked to have seen write at least one more novel?
