I haven't written a 500-word story since I was a teeny little kid! What would that be? "There was this chick. She liked pizza. She did stuff. Then a fairy princess came and they had tea the end." As a minimum, that's fine. But 2000 as a maximum does seem wee tad too short.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. Last night I was trying to think of a plot, but I couldn't think of any I could fit into four pages.
Well, that's flash fiction for ya. You'd think with all the people writing 50-word short shorts, 500 would feel generous. :p
It is possible that some of the rules and procedure will be "tweaked" as feedback comes in from you guys. This is the first time this has been done on the site, so please be patient :)

I've done professional short story competitions with a 1000 word limit (sponsored, run and judged by University English Departments). It can be done...very well as a matter of fact. I think 'tis a fine word limit.
Oh can it be a story that's already been submitted to another competition if it lost? Or something we have in the desk drawer? Or does it have to have been written in the time-frame of the competition?

1000 words? For fiction? Wow... I'll have to think about that one. I can't quite imagine it.
Could we have a technical documentation competition please? That's much more my forte. :D
so we can't submit a story we've posted on here before, because the author has to remain anonymous? that measn i'll have to come up with a new story :bawling:

I think titles would be essential once it comes to voting. How are we going to refer to your story if we don't know what to call it? The one that starts with:....... ? :)
Plus, she'll need one now, since if there's one with no title, we'll know whose it is.
