Aurelian -Thanks for saving me a whole day of reading! haven't read 1984 for four years since high school (god i'm getting old) and needed a v. quick refresher. (ps love the liza avvy ;)!) just in case anyone else is doing an essay on dystopianism, 'We' by Yevgeny Zamyatin was the inspiration for 1984, so looking at that might be useful to you and interesting to look at. (also see 'Brave New World' and 'Handmaid's Tale') :D
