Tell me about it. I'm going to our year's end of term party, like a 'prom', tonight. It's gonna suck, partying with people I hate. Why do you go to parties with people you hate? I've had to go to so-called `parties' because of professsional and political reasons, you know, you have to go to someone from work's birthday party cocktail borefest because your absense would be glaringly obvious and ~weird~. God I hate that. :evil:

Thanks God we don't have 'prom' or whatever you call it in my country. One less night of depression in my life. ;)

We call them 'formals' in Australia, and they aren't as important here as they appear to be in America (as in: "OH MY GOD IT'S THE PROM!!!!"). It's something for the girls to get excited about and dressed up for, and a reason for the guys to get ****-faced etc.
This year we had a costume formal. I went as a beatnik, with a bere, a pair of round sun glasses, tight jeans, black boots and a pair of bongo drums. I have photos for your amusement, if you like.
The only reason I had fun that night is because I didn't know what the hell was going on for most of it. Otherwise, yes, I might have taken a book.

I went to all the high school proms, homecomings, sweetheart dances, &c. Once I remember dancing when, out of nowhere, twenty black girls ran to me, pressed themselves against my body and started chanting 'we've got you, Whitey.' I collapsed to the floor. I recall gazing up a hundred skirts and then passing out from heat exhaustion. Luckily, a cute little asian girl had started kicking me and got me out of there before a hundred angry prom dates gave me a hardcore ***-beating. She became my dance partner forever thereafter.

huh. i do five of those. which is surprising because i don't actually read that much. ( no this is not denial. i really do not read that much). i seldom leave the house without a book, pretend to watch tv when really reading, and once i stayed home to read instead of going to a party. but i guess i'm just a nerd.

about the prom thing; i'm seriously thinking of not even going to ours. why bother? it's fun to dress up, and i'd prolly go just for the sake of being able to wear a ball gown somewhere.. anywhere, but i don't like a lot of ppl who would go and in the end it'd prolly end up like a big drunken orgy which i'd rather not be in the vicinity of. if u don't wanna go, just don't. it's pretty simple.

If it's something big like Arabian Nights or Das Kapital (specially if it's only one HUGE volume), a hardcover is a weapon to be feared of. :)

I almost threw my War and Peace (which i'm still trying to read wihtout much success) at the cat one day. Shame I didn't.

Lol I just had an image in my mind...you know the war with pillows, throwing them at each other... LET'S DO IT WITH BOOKS!!! :D

:D I had great joy in throwing a copy of Moby Dick off an apartment buildings' roof downtown Toronto once... but this was only because the crappy glue that was supporting the spine had degenrated so much every time you turned a page it came out in your hand, so the hell with it I thought, fine, let the pages flutter down on people and they can fight their way through just one page of that tome.... :P

All this abuse, literary and whatnot, makes me feel a bit peckish.

My freshman year of high school, I was supposed to read Things Fall Apart which I never did, and that makes it even sadder. The physical book lived up to the title it bore! :rolleyes:
