A portrait

I dont want to get mixed up in any personal conflicts, but we should all appreciate "Portrait" for the genius that it carries. Life is complex, so why should Joyce stoop any lower than as to create novels accessible to people who do not want to take the time to understand it? I first read this book in the hospital after a difficult surgery last year. I was entering my senior year in high school and this book truly inspired me in all facets of my life. As a young intellectual who felt slightly allienated by the world around him, this book made me rejoice in reading about Stephen, who abandoned all other minor pursuits in order to focus on real truth and inspiration. This is my favorite book, I prefer it over Ullyses. It kills me to hear one refer to this book as "unreadable."
