Hello!
I hope that everyone is doing well! I only just discovered this place because my British Literature professor told us that we were going to have a cumulative reading quiz for our final, so I decided that I needed some practice matching three sentences to random authors. My search led me here. Simple note about me - I'm a Writing Intensive English major at Marquette University, and I love books so much that I decided to be an English major because I wanted to work with books forever, no matter how un-lucrative that might be. I want to go into publishing after graduation and I want to talk about them all the time. I'm happy to be here!
Hi Janine - thanks for getting back to me. It's my real name too! I found the site with the short stories but was hoping I wouldn't have to read them all! The one's I tried weren't it! I liked what I read so it'll do me no harm.
I very much liked the sentiments expressed in your quotes attached to the lilac - I can almost smell it! Not many people seem to allow one to be wild these days. I mean wild in the free, unfettered sense rather than in the more modern usage of the word, which I am sure is what was meant too.
Well here goes, Maupassant story no. 1.
Hello again, Janine11, You are welcome. That is great; I don't think we have another 'Janine' here, not one that spells it, as we do...it used to be such an unusual spelling and now I see it adopted more and more...in fact, last night I watched credits rolling on a film, and noticed someone on the staff spelled it our way.Quote:
You may have misunderstood me, about the D.H. Lawrence short stories, if that is what you are referring to; we start a new one every month, so if you check back in the thread around the 1st of next month, you may see a new story posted. I say this because next month I might be a little slow posting one; I am expecting my first grandchild any day now. I hope it is soon, for mother and baby's sake... 9 months feels like forever. The point is you need not catch up and read all the stories we already read and discussed. No, those are done with; but of course, you can always try reading them later on your own or at your leisure. I recommend them all highly.
Thank you, concerning the quotes. Lawrence wrote so many, that it is hard to pick just one or two. I was actually going to change them, when I changed the photo to these lilacs....so funny, when I see them, I feel I can smell them as well; power of suggestion is strong, isn't it? They are my favorite flower! Before this lilac photo, I had a drawing of a bird's nest with eggs; that fit the one quote well. Before that I had something else...oh yes, a painting by Georgia O'Keefe, who was good friends with Lawrence, and painted "The Lawrence Tree". Lawrence used to sit below the tree and write or sketch. You can find that online, but another Litnetter pointed out to me, mostly all of the ones online, are hung 'upside-down'! Is that a riot, or what? I think I had it in my signature that direction, also. The painting seems to work any direction.Quote:

Good luck with your story. I liked any Maupassant story I have read so far. He is a very interesting author.Quote:

To all the newbies! Welcome to Lit Net; I know you will all love it here!
Hi everyone. My name is Mamie and I love literature. I really enjoy coming here and reading what everyone has to say. I am very happy to be among this group.
Hi. I just joined yesterday, and still getting to know my way around in here, yet very glad to have found such a wonderful community as this is.
I am a senior at the University of Texas in San Antonio. I will have a BA in Education (Interdisciplinary Studies) in less than 14 months. Then, I will have fulfilled my life-long dream of having a good education behind me, as well as teach elementary school.
I am not going to be taking any summer classes this summer. Instead, I plan to emerse myself into literature. My reading and comprehension is not up to where it should be so I plan to read, read oh and read some more.
I hope to meet kindred spirit friends here who also share a passion for reading, and writing. I write fiction to improve my writing skills. I don't write to get published. In fact, I have a hard time sharing my writings with anyone, but I'm getting better at that.
Anyway, hello everyone!
Welcome to LitNet texas_star!! :)
Hey I'm an arts student from Australia, i have a passion for reading and writing. unfortunately where I'm from literature isn't exactly highly prized, so there are few people I can talk to about my interests, hopefully this site will alleviate my problem.:)
 Hello from a fellow Australian!! :D I always love it when other Australians join, or when I find out that other members are from here, just that sense of having something in common with other people (apart from a love of literature!! :D). I think you'll find this site will help, many people have had the same problem when they join (including myself ).
... I love the way I often seem so confident welcoming people yet I guess I'm still fairly new to the place, in comparison to many others!... Nontheless, welcome to LitNet, it's good to have you here!! :D
Hello everybody!
