married European woman, or did he mean me? (lol!) :)
Where do I learn everything, Maddie? Am I not the Devourer of Books? Does not memsahib mean "lady" in India? The other meaning given by Paws was more because the servants were calling the married European woman they served "Lady" as well, and in books I have read, it also applies to unmarried women with servants; so it just showed respect, like saying Madam or Miss, see? And all would agree that our Maddie is a true Lady when a Dragon defends her, correct?! http://smilies.vidahost.com/games/db...wishdragon.gif
and who can deny
that gallant reply? ;)
I was so pleasantly surprised :D It does mean a Lady  Actually Sahib means Sir or used when addressing someone with respect, and memsahib is also Maam / Madam of the Sahib, people couldnt say Maam / Madam properly and it became mem :D
Now can we rest the case and not call the CIA for further investigation? :p
CIA here and at your service, what can i do for you mam?
Can you find out all the hiding cockroaches and do something about these creepy insects? :p
I think I'd call Orkin for those cockroaches... the CIA has enough bugs in it already, I believe? http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...omKane/Fly.gif
And just why were you surprised, memsahib? I read a lot, and Richard Wentworth, The Spider, has a giant Sikh as a servant, very deadly with knives, very respectful in language, so I pick up words here and there and become certain of their meanings, no? http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...e/friendly.gif
Did somebody mention cockroaches?
Can I type "ewww" even more emphatically?
have you ever tasted chocoate covered cockroaches...on halloweeen of course!!..?
I certainly haven't....has anybody else?
I can't think of anything that would induce me to eat a cockroach of my own volition, chocolate covered or otherwise, can you?
Not even $1,000,000 on Fear Factor? http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1.../disgusted.gif
Kathy, since this is a question thread, I have one for you - is that another one of those gorgeous tiles you are using for your avatar? I simply love it!:)
I agree I could not down a choc covered cockroach if my life depended on it -don't care if they are crunchy!
Ants, perchance? I have eaten them chocolate covered years ago, but formic acid is bad for the palette, no? http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...lies/alien.gif
Janine, I think you mean this one, correct?
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5...tile_small.jpg
But I decided to change it, because....I don't know why?
Pen, I had not heard formic acid was bad for the palette...but is that the only reason not to eat ants? :p
what about that fat yummy bugs that the aborigines eat in australia...(cannot remember the name of the big fat yummy bug, sorry)....i was there a few years back and picked one up...i could not, i could not, no not me...but maybe if i was living out in the bush and life seemed pretty simple...eat or do not eat, that is the question....
I guess in the context of "eat or do not eat" such a thing as eating a bug might take on a whole new meaning, eh?
I wouldn't know, She-Who-Is-Not-To-Be-Named, I am not even sure about the formic acid except that ants contain it, but they taste a bit sharp bitter, you know? I do know many native people eat ant and termites, but I would be certain to chew them well, some ants have pinchers I wouldn't want going off in my belly, you know? Ouch!
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...omKane/Ant.jpg
I read in a book once that ants taste something like pickles...have you ever heard that?
What if the question was something like this; would you ever eat a chocolate covered pickle?
Will the taste be like this -- ?
I think you are on to something there, Madhuri, but what if you were really hungry?
Would you still eat it even though knowing that everyone who has ever eaten chocolate covered pickles felt an irrepressible urge to yell random quotes from "Legally Blond"?
Huh? What is this LEGAL BLONDE stuff? **kiz_paws paws away a blonde tresse that is in her eyes**
Haven't you heard of that movie kiz_paws?
It came out in erm....a few years ago?
Did you know it starred Reese Witherspoon?
I can eat struban - cockles - but I cant keep em down. Am I morally deficient?
That may depend, how does being morally deficient relate to keeping things in one's stomach? You seem pretty nice to me, although we have never met, you know?
Come to think of it...just what are struban - cockles?
Struban? Cockles? What the hell ever happened to the English language?
Umm, "cockles" is a word in the English language, one meaning of it pertains to a type of mollusk, did you not know? :p
As for "Struban" I was not clear...I assume a type of cockle, maybe ennison will come along and clarify it?
(it was more for the thread's "ask-a-question" thing :p)
Can you people believe it is April already?
(sorry, my mistake! )
hi kathy....
did you see that big puka with the easter basket and colored eggs?
Hi littlewing, no I didn't...was it festive looking?
Do you know how much I wish I could eat some of those marshmallow chickies? The kind that are sprinkled in colored sugar, and are absolutely dreadful, but I like them anyway?
What English language? With so many words grafted in from other languages how would one recognize the bloody English language?
How can people stand the taste of Peeps and isn't it Spanglish now anyway?
Can't we be allowed to have some vices?
While Peeps are indeed dreadful, can't I just eat them once a year anyway?
And aren't these Peeps available at other seasons as well (we get Peeps ghosts and pumpkins, lol)?
[p.s. to Kathy -- I didn't see that Legally Blonde movie, but it looks like I should, lol] :p
And aren't the "peeps" from Scout and Jem perusingly looking and slowly transgressing on Boo's turf where they needn't be?
Why did I not make an effort to understand a word of what Adolescent09 said, and decided to realize how funny his signature is instead?
Shalot, am I supposed to answer that with si, oui, ja, da, han, ach, or what? http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...e/septical.gif
Pendragon, why would you reply in german to a comment in english on spanglish? :p
Isn't "oui" a French word?
