Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Amazingly, 9/10.
I still haven't read the books, and had I read this one, I'm sure my rating would be lower. But standing alone as a movie, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Definitely not something I would show to a small child, though!

Harry Potter 4 was the last movie I have seen. I was suprised that they took out so many subplots but it worked for me. Still, not as good as the book, but frankly, i've seen so many poor adaptations of books(see any of Steven Kings books to movies) that it really isn't surprising.

Jarhead - I thought it was OK, but being a vet of that war, the most accurate lines of the movie were about the war moving so fast and the one about never getting to shoot even once before the war was over. 6/10 It didn't make anystatements and was lacking substance.

Gosford park, really ancient but a master piece of period movies. I catched that on DVDs and i have to say after watching it for 4times, its still my favourite piece. I'll give credit for the pace of the drama, the intensity (for the storyline and visual presentation). Lover of vintage should watch this for the old world, pre-depression feel.

GOF- yea i thought it was great judging from the numerous clips WB released. But its too bad they didnt show the complete Order of Pheonix members at the end. Where's the linkage to the next movie going to be? *shrugs* letsgooliers- not a perfect one but its the best within time frame?
I've just finished "The Legend of Zorro". A good film, I really enjoyed myself.
Last night I was passing over the channels to see if there was something good to see. There was a movie that was just beginning "The Man Who Knew Too Much". The version with Doris Day and James Stewart (from 1956) it was a great movie. :D
Alfred Hitchcock is my favorite director. The fact that he never won an Oscar as best director is a very poor reflection on the Academy of Motion Pictures. Only one of his films ever won best picture of the year ("Rebecca" in 1940.)Quote:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I'd give it a 7 because I wish they had stayed more faithful to the book and not 'hollywoodized' it by removing so many subplots. Still, I enjoyed it. Miranda Richardson & Ralph Fiennes were really good, short as their roles were.
The banner ad has convinced me. I am its zombie slave. I have to see "Memoirs of a Geisha" when it comes out.

Walk the Line. This movie was so tremendously good – wonderful acting, wonderful singing, a wonderful romance and it all worked . . . yes wonderfully!
It’s about Johnny Cash, the Man in Black and how he met his second wife June Carter from the famous singing Carter family. I think perhaps the only sour note was how his first wife was portrayed, a little shrewish, and since it was made by John & June’s son he has admitted he may not have portrayed her correctly though not intentionally. Aside from that the movie is a must see and the performances Oscar contending!
It’s not only for country music lovers but for anyone interested in music in general, and n by gone days, and biographies and romances and redemption and just a rollicking good time! It starts off with rockabilly music Johnny did along with Elvis, Roy Oberson, Carl Perkins, and of course Jerry Lee Lewis. Joaquin Phoenix sings so well there are times he almost matches the Man in Black’s distinctive voice and Reese Witherspoon! Her voice is superb and lovely and I even think better than June’s.
Let me add that my 21 year old daughter enjoyed this movie immensely so it’s for all generations. She enjoyed it so much she’s seen it three times, along with myself. Bought the soundtrack and plan to see it a fourth time this weekend I think. :banana: It keeps getting better and better with each viewing. The music is contagious, the story compelling, the acting stupendous. I highly recommend this movie. 5 out of 5! Enjoy!
The last movie I saw was Pride and Prejudice -- it was good but the theater where we saw it didn't have a good sound system so sometimes it was hard to hear. I liked the plot but I thought it was a little too long.

I assume you mean the one that just came out, with Kiera Knightley? Have you seen the 1995 version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle? It may have been a mini-series, but I can't remember. In any event, if you like the story, I would highly recommend watching that one. It's one of my favorites. :nod:Quote:

I most recently saw The Pride and The Prejudice. What a great movie! It was my second time seeing it, the first was in Ireland in the beginning of october, months before it came out here!

It was very good. However, I was sad that they cut out so many of the songs and changes some into spoken words instead of being sung.

Der untergang, Seen it a couple of times now, and everytime Bruno Ganz manages to amaze me with his portrayal of Hitler. It leaves no doubt the guy was a monster, but at the same times shows that even he had a more humane side to his character.

Pride and Prejudice. Good movie but has some slight difference with the novel. Any way, the kind of the difference that makes from a novel a novel and a movie a movie. I like it though the novel best.
Green Street.......Such a good film!!!!!! It really moved me!.....definately a 9/10, close to a 10!!

I love those Asian films! Even though everybody dies, dies and dies again. But they manage to do it with style and the story is beautiful. And, of course, the fighting style, the landscapes ... *sighs*
Syriana. I can't, in good conscience, give this movie a rating, because I still don't know what the plot was. Something tells me it was very good. The acting was good, the direction was good, the effects were good. I just have no idea what happened.
During childhood, I would ask my mother about every five minutes what was happening on the screen. Then, even as I began to understand most of it, I just accepted that there were jokes I wouldn't get and characters I wouldn't know, etc. Then somewhere around the age of twelve I realized that I pretty much understood everything that was going on in front of me, and for the past eight years it's been the same.
Then I saw Syriana, and I felt like I was five again. It affected me much the way the newspaper did when I was little: I knew there were people, and that someone had done something bad, and that somehow someone in charge was corrupt, and people got hurt who were trying to do what was right. I think. That may be what happened. I know George Clooney came out of it with fewer fingernails than with which he began. Everything else is a series of plotpoints with dangling strings that I can't quite tie together. All I really know is that for the first time in a really long while, and possibly ever, I walked out of a movie feeling very stupid.

The last movie I saw though was... well... I can't remember, it's been such a long time since I've gone to the theater. Even though just recently I did watch a small portion of a movie on TV while my sister was watching. Had to do about this girl getting raped, basically she went to her friend's house or is boyfriend's? well... anyhow... she goes to see him and meets some people, not sure who they were... could be his brothers. They all end up raping the poor girl, while her boyfriend is in another room listening to music completely oblivious to the fact that's she's there, I think he knew that someone was getting raped but... he didn't really do anything (and it had apparently happened before). Then years later she meets up with him and tells him what happened and he's all... you know sorry and stuff. In the end, the guy helps her try to get over it and move on (they don't get married or anything by the way, the guy just goes somewhere else and they move on with there lives never to see each other again).

The last film I paid attention to was an old flick on Turner Classic Movies -- the 1937 version of "Night Must Fall" with Robert Montgomery and Rosalind Russell. It was a Hitchcock-style story, based on a popular stage play.
The setting is the rural English countryside. There's a cranky old woman in a wheelchair, her spinsterish caretaker and a loquacious cook/housekeeper. Everything seems quite normal until a handyman named Danny (Montgomery) shows up looking for a job. The same day a village woman is found murdered and dismembered in the woods. A creeping sense of dread takes over the story.
Cut to the ending: the wheelchair-bound woman has vanished, Danny is acting queer and Rosalind Russell (the caretaker) is very curious about what he is keeping in a hatbox in his room. You know, but you don't want to know.
Very good film with stellar performances by Montgomery (who was nominated for an Academy Award) and by Russell in a unique role for her.
