Welcome to the site, Darneisha! You will find many poetry lovers here, and the odd suspense fan, too. What poets and authors do you enjoy? (How's that for being active?) :)
Welcome MS! Career decisions are hard, but people usually find their way eventually. (Good luck, though). People will definitely give you honest feedback here, so hold on to your socks and don't be offended. Or if you just feel like talking, debating, or complaining (my specialty), feel free to do that, too. It's very nice to have you with us. :)

Hello all.
I am a history student from the UK, and to put it simply I love literature. My other interests include astronomy, jazz, metaphysics and learning Spanish.
My favourite writer is Scott Fitzgerald. My favourite books are The Great Gatsby, Lolita, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Secret History, Of Mice and Men and The Virgin Suicides. I am also fond of reading poetry; my favourite poets are Emily Brontė and Ezra Pound. My favourite poem is Ginsberg's Howl. I also read many short stories although I have to say I seldom venture outside of Fitzgerald's vast arsenal.
I have greatly enjoyed the insights found here thus far and I look forward to getting to know others and contributing myself where I am able to :)
Hello Aspie and welcome to the site. I hope you are enjoying my beautiful country (if not, give it some time. :)) it's nice to have you with us.
Greetings Ivy. There is a thread for astronomy here and a whole forum for philosophy (plus Fitzgerald and Nabokov fans galore). I prefer 18th-19th century books myself (also ancient lit and new Booker-type stuff) but The Secret History is a special favorite. It sounds like you will fit right in here. Welcome indeed. :)
Hi, I am Jan and I'm hoping to discuss any theories or thoughts I came up with while reading
Welcome Jan. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts. :)

Hi All
I am new to this forum, live in Australia and probably a lot older than many other Literature Network participants.
My reading is fairly eclectic but I do have a particular interest in the verse novel form - haven't found any relevant discussions on here yet?
I will probably do a lot of reading of other posts over the next several days/weeks, before venturing to make contributions.
I am excited by what I have read so far I am very much looking forward to becoming an active learner and participant in the future.
Ji
Welcome ~Ji. There is a wide range of ages on LitNet, so don't worry about that. I'm in my mid-fifties and I'm always amazed to find out who is older when the someone or other 'fesses up. There are also younger people here, some of whom amaze me with their maturity. Maybe I'm easily amazed. :) In any case, welcome to the site. I'm looking forward to reading your posts.
Hi all,
English is not my first language Spanish Is and I am also learning Japanese.
I am an active learner and I always try to improve myself by learning something new every day.
Besides reading and writing I enjoy movies, cartoons and pretty much everything that entertains the mind since for some reason I am unable to find peace inside my head.
My main goal here is to meet a lot of grammar Nazis since I want to improve my writing skills a lot.
I am currently working in my novel (in Spanish) is the story of a person who can manipulate dreams (kind of like the movie inception but not with a complete retarded story)
I am happily married (not)
I am a lawyer (in a different country) working in an administrative position that doesn't require the skill of a lawyer which is good I never wanted to be lawyer however there is always people trying to push your life and trying to live what they couldn't with your life (right mom and dad?)
I am in love of a person (who doesn't love me in return) who is not my wife and not being honest with my wife is killing me.
I guess that sums my life right now.
I will start reading and absorbing everything you present in this forum and will start to make contributions later on.
I will gladly contribute in every way I can.
Thanks

Hello to All:
I began to write when I was 14 and was put on Diary Probation. I had to keep track of everyone I talked to and what was said. It was boring. So I made up friends and conversations about robbing a bank. The Judge I turned in my work weekly never said a word. This was the start of my writing efforts.
As a teenager, I sold Bibles door to door and traveled to many States with a sales crew. This was the beginning of my education. It was also helpful in becoming a proud Atheist.
I went on to earn a BA (Film and TV Production). Then an MA (Playwriting). Then I joined the faculty of the Theater Arts Department and taught for many years.
When I got tired of teaching I formed a Film and TV Production company and did this for too many years.
Whenever I got a block of free time I wrote. I write Stage Plays and Screenplays. The last few years I've been working in Fiction.
I'm an Expat living in Mexico.
I look forward to participating in the forums.
Have a nice writing day.
Hello Zasik.
Welcome. It sounds like you and I have similar styles to life. A day without learning something new is a wasted day. When I was growing up I used to read a dictionary at bedtime and if I didn't learn at least 4 new words, I felt like I'd cheated myself.
I look forward to participating with you. I'm glad you joined the forum.
Have a happy writing day.
Oh dear, like the white rabbit in Wonderland, I'm late!
Welcome Senior Zosik. My advice to you is to stop canoodling or at least make sure that your wife doesn't read your posts. But welcome in any case. It's nice to have you with us. :)
Hello everyone,
I'm somewhat older than those whose introductions I have just read. Perhaps too old to even mention....oh what the heck, I am close to 57. I studied literature at university for four years in the second half of the 1970s and been interested in it all my life. I had a few short stories published in the early Eighties. I've edited magazines on science fiction and Bob Dylan and had three books published on Dylan. Just last week my latest book came out and this time it was on Shakespeare, called Shakespeare in Cambridge by Amberley Press. As well as Shakespeare my other interests - some might say obsessions - are the Romantic and Metaphysical poets and Nineteenth Century Russian fiction.
I'm looking forward to exploring the site now..............
Hello Iztra. There are people older, younger, and about the same age as you on the site, so don't worry about it. You sound like an interesting person, so I hope you've come to do more than plug your book. ;-)
It's been awhile!
Hey y'all.
Hey, My name is Amine. I am an English Literary Studies in my first year and I joined you in this community for many reasons and one of them is improving my English skills. I hope spending a good time with you guys and thank you for the useful informations
Hello everyone! I am from Argentina

:cheers2:
Yikes! Hi everyone! :)
Toni, you've got more posts than I have, so welcome back. Lamrabetson/Amine, Carolina, and Zaphar, welcome from afar. It's great to have you here. :)
And Iztra, don't worry about it. I didn't intend to be rude or disrespectful. Please come and join the fun. :)
Well... Not sure where to start, so I will try the Introductory thread:-) I guess my English is far from the best as I am native Russian, however after almost 10 years in the UK it had improved a lot. I love Literature. I do not remember names of the characters, plots, even names of books I had read quite often, as I consider books to be a food for a brain. Similar to the usual food for stomach. It gives an energy. Good quality food keeps you in a good health, good quality reading keeps your brain in a healthy condition. We would starve without reading with no energy left. I am trying to find my way in professional translation - English to Russian. Strangely enough, the poetry is much easier for me to translate than prose. Another strange thing - I find it confusing when people study literature (this is definitely an age thing), as only with age you start to understand that there are many ways to look at the same thing if to look from different dimensions. That is why Literature is impossible to study. What makes a character to look like a victim when you 17, can look like an abuser when you are 35. Well... Long hello, I suppose, but I do hope to find a lot of interesting topics here. So hi everyone:-)
Привет Margerma! Welcome to the site. You will find many lovers of Russian and English literature here. Do you enjoy current or classic literature (or both)? In either case, you will find like-minded readers on LitNet.
There is a German lady here named Kiki who is a professional translator (and a really nice person). Maybe you two can share trade secrets with each other. Are you out there somewhere, Kiki?
I could not agree more, but you will find (perhaps understandable) resistance to that truth from many graduate students who are hoping to find a teaching career (and have gone deep into debt in the attempt) by signing on to someone else's orthodoxy. And you may find others who (less forgivably) just don't think free-thinking readers have a voice in the discussion. Who cares? We will say what we have to say and let 'em fuss. I look forward to hearing your thoughts about literature. So welcome. :)
Hello all,
I have been looking for a good, serious literature forum for a while. I mostly read the classics, and historical fiction, but dip into science fiction and fantasy for exceptional work. Pleased to meet you all.
Nice to meet you, too, Methinks. Welcome to the site. :)
I am books lover and so thrilled to discover this forum. Looking forward to participate in near future. Just say hi to everybody. :-)
Hi Yun Yi, Welcome - just look around and participate:)
Hi everyone. Just an occasional writer here. Probably won't post often. Most likely only when I have something to share. But looking forward to sharing what little I have someplace safe.
Hey troops. Nice to have you with us. Please post as much of your work as you like. When you do, though, you may want to specify whether you would like critical feedback or are just sharing. Many people want the former (because better us than a potential publisher), and some of the comments can be merciless. If you don't want that, be sure to say so. And if some jerk doesn't get the picture and wallops you, try not to take it too seriously. Sometimes criticism is helpful and sometimes it's just someone trying to sound important. Nice to have you here in any case. :)
Thanks Pompey. I appreciate the heads up and looking forward to ignoring the trolls ! :-D
