Welcome aboard, BE. "Herding cats," I love it. :)
Hi,
I'm new here. I am mainly interested in philosophy but also literature. I look forward to getting to know people.
Welcome Levinas. Say good morning to YesNo and you'll find yourself in a philosophical discussion (usually involving Berkeley). I hope you enjoy the site! :)
Thank you Pompey. I'll try that.
Welcome, Levinas! I saw your recent post on time. It is a subject I know almost nothing about, but wish I understood it better since I find space-time confusing. As Pompey Bum mentions, I think Berkeley's idealism is correct, but I am neither a scientist nor a philosopher.
Also welcome to bare-elf. The "herding cats" view of taking care of old people is great.
Hi, I'm Valeria, I love books, movies, travels, some game.. I'm interested to science fiction, mystery, fantasy literature, but I'm inquiring, I'm looking for new inspirations!
Could anybody help me for this cultural hunger?
Have a nice day! ;)
Hi,
I love talking about literature and listening to other readers' thoughts. Present interests: Russian lit, especially Leo Tolstoy. Looking forward to benefit from the collective wisdom of this forum.
Hey Greenstick! Welcome to the site. :)
Cool... Asimov is one of my all time favorites.
Neal Stephenson's The Diamond Age: Or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer is an excellent book, actually it's one of the best SF books I've ever read. Strictly speaking The Diamond Age is Science Fiction, but reads almost like a fantasy, sort of a cyberpunk/steampunk/urban fantasy tale. The protagonist is Nell, a young girl who finds herself caught up in events that are spiraling out of control; and an outlawed book created by her father is her only hope.
Hi all!
Hi Bogardus! :)
Good morning. Not sure I will be really comfortable here. I was told this is a poem-posting site, rather than a discussion forum. But here I am for the moment. Would someone kindly advise me how this site works? I am an old man, not as computer literate as most people here, so I could use some coaching.
Not to worry; you were told wrong. It's primarily a discussion site, but you can also post your poems, stories, artwork, and photos.
Since your intro post was successful, you now know how it works. :) Browse the threads, and post where and when you feel like contributing. The people here are both quality and accessible, so don't be intimidated.
Welcome to the forum!
Welcome indeed, 9Jan. If you want to post a poem, go to the "forum" page (there's a button to get you there at the upper left of the screen). That will list all the forums the site offers, grouped by category headings. Follow the list down to the category heading "writing," under which you will find the link to a forum called "personal poetry." Click on that link and you will be in the forum. You can start a thread and post your poetry there by clicking on the "post a new thread" link at the upper left of that screen. It sounds complicated, but it's really just a few quick clicks.
You should be aware, though, that some fledgling poets post here because they want merciless criticism in order to improve their work (better we do it for them than the New Yorker). If you don't want that, BE SURE TO SAY SO AT THE TOP OF THE THREAD.
I hope that's helpful. I look forward to seeing your work. :)
I'm a Copywriter from South Africa who just enjoys reading. Hobbies - Reading, Watching movies and television....the usual geeky stuff.
Welcome Zibusiso! Sounds like you will fit in well with us usual geeks. :)
Hi!
I'm a 23 year old guy from India. My interests are reading, science and writing. The writing part is fairly new( about 18 months old) so I'm still finding my feet there. Hope to have a great time here. :-)
Welcome to the site, Aleph. I look forward to getting to know you. :)
Hello everyone!
Hello - How nice to find you. I'm reading Little Dorrit and wanted to see if anyone was discussing it. My google search "discussion little dorrit" brought me here. I love nonfiction and a variety of classical literature. Was just thinking that Dickens was the first cast member in the Monty Python set, and others, dontcha think? Am having a blast reading Little Dorrit, and thinking there's enough comment in it to qualify as nonfiction in a certain way - like any truly effective satire.
Hello Niaih, and welcome to the site. You can start threads about Little Dorrit in the General Literature forum, or in the Authors Forum (under the sub-forum Dickens and the sub-sub forum Little Dorrit). A number of members (including me, Jonathan, and Carmilla) love talking Dickens, and Jonathan (though he is too modest to sat so) is quite an expert.
My favorite character in Little Dorrit is Flora Finch, who just cracks me up every time she talks. :)
Greetings Yu-tung and welcome to the site. I have read Day of the Locust and Miss Lonelyhearts by West, but that was long ago (in the 70s, just to show you how old I am). West died young, as you probably know. Otherwise I think he would have been a major 20th century literary voice. I'm glad you are enjoying him.
Hello,
I'm an artist/writer but am leaning toward the writing after taking drawing classes.. I look forward to art and peoples expressions regardless!!
Hello Jodie and welcome to the site. :)
Hey TRIGGER! Welcome to you, too. I enjoyed your comments on the religion thread, but like Melanie, I wished you had expanded them a little. Hopefully you will find the time to get back to the discussion. I'd love to hear your point of view. Welcome again. :)
EDIT: What does your avatar show?
It's too small I know but I should keep it it's very useful.. Keidel Classic Organizational Design Tradeoff. These tradeoffs that must be managed in designing organizations.
Thank God. I thought you were an Amway salesman. ;-)
Hello all.
I'm a High School librarian, have read mountains of literature, but now read mainly poetry and Shakespeare. What else is there to say? I have lots of interests, but these will be revealed in any posts I write.
Cheers.
Hello all.
I read 19th century British and American novels and stories for pleasure ?! The very first book I remember reading as a child was `Treasure Island`, so it must have been this that sparked my love for the classic novels. However, it was only in my early twenties that I really began reading with a passion, (I am now 47). My favourite author is Thomas Hardy.
I am going to post a query about Elizabeth Gaskell very soon in the dedicated Authors threads, which I hope somebody could help me with.
Toodle-pip for now..
Hello nounboy, and welcome to the site. :)
What else is there to say? Um, how do you feel about gerunds?
And why come you to Carterhaugh without command of me?
Welcome in any case (which is probably what Tam Lin should have said to young Janet in the first place), you will find many lovers of 19th century fiction here, so you should fit right in. Nice to have you with us. :)
I'm married to Verbgirl. So watch out.

Hello,
Right now I'm at a point in my life that I don't know what I want to do in regards to my career. Because of that I decided to join this website and find relaxation in my writings and have honest feedback through people on here who can help me improve in my writing.
Thank you! I look forward to reading other peoples' work and visa versa.
