my mother was a big fan of I love lucy when I was little, so I have fond memories of it.
I live not far away from Jamestown, where lucy was born. they have a lucy festival every year and a museum in her honor (also an additional comedy museum). maybe someday i'll get to them.
alright tailor---it took me hours to create, after much research, having to resort to high end online tournament making software, we have a 32 team bracket with three preliminary pigs tails!
for some brevity sake I had to leave out allllll sorts of goodies. I did make an effort to have a relatively even distribution of shows from each decade, 50s-80s, and to have each decade face each other a relatively equal amount of times.
oh boy! looking forward to it!
in the first prelim, bonanza vs gunsmoke.
-
Lol !!!... sounds like March Madness in May... or as Father Mulcahy of M.A.S.H. might say: Bracketology!, Bracketology!
I've watched a few episodes of Gunsmoke recently with my wife at her sister's house (they have Direct TV). I really prefer Matt Dillon's character over ___ Cartright... here's a bio of James Arness: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Arness. An aside: As "the Thing" he brought more depth to life than that of the character in The Addams' Family... (not referring to Lurch).
Hogan's Heroes or M.A.S.H. ?
-
good memory tailor---jocularity! jocularity!
hard to beat the bonanza theme music though. how did the gunsmoke episodes hold up after so many years?
ah---im sorry, being the tournament administrator im not allowed to answer that for fear of swaying the outcome! although ironically I left Hogan's heroes out. I say that because im watching and really enjoying that very show these days. I should start over and make a 64 team bracket!
another pig tail:
I dream of Jeannie vs bewitched.
-
Gunsmoke held up very well for me.
I dream of Jeannie :)
Hmmm... guess I'll stay out of the realm of brackets and await enlightenment.
Butterflies or Lady Bugs ?
-
that's good to hear. i still love watching the old shows from childhood days.
difficult to pass on Jeannie given her outfit!
ah that's a fun one---lady bugs are cute and adorable and butterflies are beautiful and delightful. i'll go with the latter by virtue of their visibility.
the last pig tail:
the cosby show vs all in the family.
-
I haven't seen much of either; I liked the edginess of all in the family - so go with it.
Baby ducks or baby bunnies ?
-
i suspect that might happen a few times at least tailor---"huh, I never even heard of that show!"
my dad used to watch all in the family when I was a kid.
oh that's a toughie, that's gotta be the wildlife version of like saying kittens or puppies?
lemme go with ducks because I have a pond in front of my house. I get a mr and mrs goose family every year and its one of my favorite things in the world.
right back into the fray for the first pigtail winner
I love lucy vs gunsmoke.
interestingly tailor---I write inmates, and in the letter I just read a couple days ago the writer told me she had just recently watched a gunsmoke episode and that it was one of her favorite shows.
-
We had a duck in one of our ponds this year... then duck with eggs in the brush... then duck and ducklings swimming... then gone? Canada Geese are ubiquitous here... nearly every day I hear them :)
Gunsmoke
Best Foods/Hellman's or Miracle whip ?
-
that's pretty neat tailor. I get ducks here too and I might have mentioned this before, only once in all the years since ive been here have they ever had babies. I wonder if maybe they don't like to do that with a goose family around.
when I was a kid it would definitely have been miracle whip, but aging has grown mayonnaise on me. its more or less a toss-up but today, slight edge towards miracle whip.
I have come bottles of a ketchup/mayo combination that are pretty good on French fries.
this one might be easy---leave it to beaver vs M*A*S*H.
-
re: ketchup/mayo combination has oft been a dressing on a green salad. I have never developed a liking for Miracle Whip... perhaps its magic eluded me.
Yeah, M*A*S*H (family connection as I have mentioned before) though LITB was a staple growing up. I have a friend who followed Tony Dow... a So. Cal. connection I believe.
Signs: Fire or Water ?
-
ive not heard of that one before tailor---maybe i'll try it someday.
my grandfather was one of those ketchup on scrambled eggs guys.
golly gee beave!
saved this for you, thought youd get a kick out of it:

I don't technically buy into the zodiac, but its fun reading. im an "air" sign. all else being equal and I have to chose a date between water and fire, I say water.
father knows best vs Sanford and son.
-
I may have tried catsup on eggs as a child... I believe my Grandfather did... but then he liked bacon grease with catsup too dabbed with white bread.
Enjoyed the short... mine must have been the "Mountaineer" - didn't realize how large they came.
Sanford and Son was a kick. Don't remember any FKB's episodes, though I remember watching it as a youth... going with S&S
Sundaes or Shakes ?
-
I suspect the white bread bacon grease meal was a culinary thing of the generation that preceded us.
I used to have a mountaineer, now I appear to have the tinker. I know, its crazy isn't it?
I always liked when fred feigned having a heart attack and told his deceased wife he was coming to join her!
hmm, another toughie---the major upside of sundaes are all the fixin's, but lots of times I like drinking things as opposed to eating, and so small lean towards the shake. my vegetarianism extends somewhat into dairy products so when I have choices between all those things, I go with slushes instead.
the danny Thomas show vs three's company
-
Ah, I've gone to almond milk - much less dairy now in my diet (such as it is). Almond milk's shelf life is longer than moo too :)
A nod to Danny Thomas here :)
Spring Break or Halloween ?
-
I love almond milk. mayyyyybe the next time im at aldi i'll get some.
that's a fun one---I liked spring break, even though I loved college, for the sake of having a week off. traveling to warmer weather was a part of it, but childhood memories of Halloween are hard to beat. plus October is probably my favorite month of the year.
I think im going to have to insert Hogan's heroes into a later round.
the burns and allen show vs hill st blues.
